after reading the posts and looking at the downloads regarding this filter I went ahead and bought one - japarts 8.99 + delivery 1.99 superfast 24 hours.
only problem is I followed the instructions re glove box removal and so on, exposing the blower motor and the chamber - no problem at all - only to find that the Mistral does not have the filter installed vertically in the chamber!

Now I am not sure if there is one at all??

I have the demist problem, I have a smelly heater, blower works on all settings. so if there is a filter I can only think its located in the scuttle!
I would love to hear some advice that works - the solution in the downloads does not have anything to do with my mistral....................

pics please..

you got air con...

no air con NO cabin filter

ah.

dave36 if you want pop ove weekend we can both have a dig under your dash..

as far as i know all mistrals have air con ..... well all the ones ive seen anyway and ive seen 5 ( besides mine )

Air con filter

thanks for the replies guys, yes the Mistral does have air con.
the last component removed was the cross member, which should have exposed the vertical slot in the heater chamber, with a single screw at the base of the cover, but no not here!
The chamber has a central horizontal joint, which is glued and also has distributor style spring clips - I did remove the clips and try to pry open the joint - no way.
Just went out and took a photo of the underside of the heater chamber - I put it back together pretty quick when I realized the filter was not going in!

cabin filter

god you are desperate, I can't even get the missus to strip that far - what a mess!!! no not the wife
I am thinking if there is a filter its got to be under the bonnet in the scuttle.
I have joined the NZ mistral forum and placed the question there
will come back if I get anything

cabin filter

one thought has crossed my mind - I have seen a few photos of the heater unit that have been on a LHD, could the mistral one need the chamber to be removed to access the filter?
ie: is the mistral unit fitted back to front?

the not fitted filter!

just got a reply from Nissan, Japan, which reads:

"Thank you for your email dated February 21, 2011, concerning your Nissan
Mistral. First of all, we appreciate your patronage of our products.

With regard to your inquiry, we regret to inform you that a clean filter
for an air conditioner is only equipped with the models manufactured
after January, 1997.

We hope the information will be useful for you."

So the next job will be to find the air intake and make sure it is clear of debris
thanks all.

Mods - should the Nissan reply be posted as a sticky?

well that will save me a job!
