Morning all,had a strange journey in this morning eml on and off and stalled at junctions couple of times, started again fine, checked codes I have 11,12,18,47

I have checked wiring to crank sensor on front of block and one wire frayed stripped and joined without plug and no longer cutting out but rough idle any ideas? :doh

Also to add if I hold revs at 3-4k in neutral then let off idles fine for a few seconds then reverts back to rough idle like it has hiccups lol

Someone on here mentioned recently about revving in neutral, if my memory serves me correct  if you hold over 1500rpm it cuts the fuel, perhaps this is stopping you cutting off the engine? :nenau

11 - Fuel injection pump position sensor - incorrect signal
12 - Mass air flow (MAF) sensor - circuit malfunction
18 - Fuel quantity adjuster/position sensor - malfunction
47 - Crankshaft position (CKP) sensor - incorrect signal

Might pay to wipe the codes & then take it for a run in case some of those codes are old ones & have never been cleared:thumb2

:naughty exactly what I was going to update my last post with

How do I clear codes? Keep reading different ways and none seem to work mine is 14 pin btw

What year is yours?

Checkout the downloads section within quick links as there is a how to guide regarding code reading.

If it's the later plug (can't remember when they changed) bridge the bottom left & right contacts a few times quickly & it wipes the codes IIRC

So the T2 died on me on way home and flattened battery trying to start, recovery out, turns out the fuse for fuel pump had blown, replaced and fired up but running lumpy still.

I am suspecting the crank sensor as the when slowing it finds it hard to keep revs stable and also the rev counter is very jumpy and not smooth like it used to be, jumps from 1.5k to 3k. Is there a cheaper way of replacing this part- I have the hitachi maf so dont know if there are different part numbers for crank sensor.

you can always try & rewire the crank sensor, cut about 3 inches away from both sensor & plug, solder in new section, I used a spare mains lead I had, working great at the moment :thumbs

reconnected the crank sensor ok and is better after cleaning a thick oil off the sensor!

also did oil and filter change too, (got nice and messy lol)

still slight miss on idle so gonna clean mini filter on pump banjo see if it helps, was running in veg at time so gone back to densil and injector cleaner lol

After a longer journey I am getting the rev counter issue again,

I ordered the VAG sensor at the weekend which arrived today, I cut the plug off and found although the plug had three pins only two have wires connected and the other is indeed the shielding wire!

I will be making a spacer as described in the link above, for less than £15 I hope to have a replacement sensor at a fraction of the price!

I will not get to this until the thursday or the weekend so will keep you posted!
