Had this little prob with my clutch it was the pipe on the slave cylinder It was buggerd Change it SORTED :clap Worth a check ?
Same here. Seems to be a common problem. Although it never led to clutch slipping in mine only problems getting into gear. What about clutch cable? Sure it's ok as bad cable could give clutch slip. Also what about play on the pedal, wrong adjustment could lead to slipping although that would probably mean clutch is going anyway.
Cable
GL5 will not cause a bearing to fail, a ball/roller race is not fussy on oil, it is the syncro cones/brakes that do not like 5, Rick
True -
The guy at David Beaumont 4X4 told me that these bits that degenerate as a result of the GL5 usually find their way into the bearings and wreck them.
I can find symbols like and :doh but just thinking about this very sorry expensive episode in my life I need the symbol for falling to my knees and crying
think you have been fed fairy stories, the dissolved bronze/brass that results from GL5 cannot possibly affect your hardened steel roller/ball races in fact it is a bonus as it will improve the lubricant for these and the gears, the only down side is poor syncro mesh, Rick
From what I remember, over time it became difficult to get into 3rd gear and progressively over time a whiring noise in neutral became louder and louder. Apparently part of the syncro had broken up and these bits were migrating round in the gearbox. The oil had lots of swarf in it and I was told that the GL5 will disolve the bronze components which eventually break up in large pieces.
All I know now is to never use GL5 in my terrano gearbox :doh
The problem is that the garage does the work and because you havn't had a chance to see it for yourself ...... you never really know what happened :nenau
