Hi,

52 plate SWB 3.0 Manual.

"Clutch slip" above 2200 rpm in 3rd, 4th and 5th.
No problem on a short journey.
Garage changed clutch and slave cyl.
Garage changed clutch again
I can feather clutch up my drive no problem.
Clutch works fine as brake going down steep hills.
On a steep hill if I hold the rpm approx. 2500 rpm I can go up, as soon as more power is applied rpm increases speed does not.
No nasty clutch smell.
The first replacement clutch had no sign of burning
Garage wishes they had never met me and appear sceptical, hopefully now I can get it to fail in under 10 miles I may be able to show them

 :nenau Help

No fluid on the friction plates is there?

did they change the hose to the slave cylinder? if not it has probably collapsed inside and holding pressure on the clutch, Rick

Friction plates fine. I was hoping that one of the mechanics had made a minor cock up with fluid or something but the first replacement was fine

Will check on the hose.

My main confusion is that there is no clutch smell

My knowledge of modern cars is limited. I there anything in the gearbox synchro that could slip

I know that in a multi engine helicopter we have free wheel units on the gearbox input to allow engines to load share ( I know I have only one engine in the Terrano ).

This is a pain as the vehicle is in superb condition apart from this.

Sounds like the slave cylinder is not returning fully.
Do you still have the damper pipe fitted/connected?

Still driving it in and out of work, less than 10 miles, no hills.
Damper pipe, is that the long pipe that runs down the vehicle that has been the subject of much discussion ?

Have uh checked your leak off pipes? I had clutch slip when hot it was the oil leaking down the block onto bell housing :thumb2

The clutch is clean, no sign of any contamination

my bet is on the hose, but also check you have a couple of mm free play on the pedal plunger as this may have been over adjusted, if no free play pressure can build up just like you resting your foot on the pedal, Rick

Clutch problems when hot

Its a long time ago but I had a friend with a similar problem years ago and it ended up being the clutch sticking to the splines when hot due to rust on the roll gear and some extra crank end float. (It was an old Mini)

Another thought is was it a Genuine Nissan Clutch as a lot of afternarket reconditioned units are of poor quality.

Bloody good shout that Rick!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :clap :clap :clap

Thanks guys will be taking it in on Wed, hope it will be OK

that was like mine. listen to Rick, his advise was change hose and check slack
in pedal. Didnt like telling my local engineer, sucking eggs etc ,but did the trick.

Thanks guys,
Drove around for an hour on Wed but it would not do it :doh
Showed this thread to the garage owner who agreed about the hose, very pleasant chap who wants to do well, he has a good reputation and strives to keep it.

I discussed prices and options and have decided to change the slave as well as the hose as this is starting to piss me off :(. Courtesy car booked for the 11th, will let you know what happens.

Just had this problem after fitting a new clutch pedal bush from BigBunny.
Clutch slipping, but only under pressure or when I forced it to. When i checked this morning the clutch actuating arm had no play at all and was solid against the slave cylinder pushrod.

I adjusted the pushrod from the master cylinder so I got a small amount of free-play at the gearbox end, bingo, no more clutch slip.:thumb2

Fitting the new bush must've took all the play out of the pedal and not allowed full disengagement of the clutch.

Thanks guys, had the slave and flexi pipe changed, just waiting for a longish trip to assess whether it works

The final story

Problem carried on until one day at the start of January, I had travelled about 5 miles and the problem appeared so I drove to the garage and saw the boss :thumb2

He was most displeased and started on the car himself, after putting the vehicle on the ramp he cracked the clutch line and proved that pressure was in the system. He then adjusted the clutch leaving a small amount of play. :clap

:bow

I have done many longish trips and no problems since :clap:clap:clap.

On a separate note they must have upset the adjustment on the torsion bars when they changed the clutch, car is nose down, I was going to correct this unfortunately with the weather and other things I have not had the chance :doh It has just failed the MOT as the suspension is on the bump stops :(:(:(

Have you checked your leakoff pipes? Dripping down the back perhaps? Worse with veg than derv I'm sure but worth a check.

This is what was causing my clutch slip anyway. :thumb2

That's the second time in this thread that you mentioned this, see post 7.
:doh

Anyway, according to the earlier post, it looks like it's fixed.
Over adjusted clutch...:augie

I was under the impression that hydraulic clutches were self adjusting... mind you I have never messed with a clutch, I changed a slave on an Austin Ambassador once, less than two years old, and filled with casting sand and oil, those were the days of high quality control and rigorous inspection, :doh fitted it, bled it... made no adjustments to it in any form, worked fine for another 11 years upto the point we sold it...
