Clutch Slave Cylinder

just thinking. I will be looking at my clutch leak soon, and I wondered, how easy is it to replace the clutch slave cylinder?

they don't seem expensive, so might be worth changing when I do the flexi pipe job...

As Steve says, it must be one of the easiest jobs on the car, especially if you are doing the flexy pipe. Just 2 extra bolts.

Do I need copper washers or anything when I connect the flexi hose to the slave cylinder ?

A brake pipe spanner is a must and before replacing the coppers washer just anneal then and they should be useable again..

So, I can use the same washers but warm them up a bit, right ?

To be honest I rarely bother with annealing, and just refit, never had any trouble, Rick

just be aware that the mistral slave cylinder IS NOT the same as the terrano / maverick one ( one of the few bits that isn't )

mistral has a slave cylinder for the brakes , its a figure of 8 shape :nenau.... oops my mistake , thought he said brake slave cylinder oops

Ok, so I've replaced the slave cylinder and flexi hose, bled the clutch from the slave and master cylinder, and still the clutch pressure is weak. The damper pipe has been blocked off at the block on the new flexi hose.

Could the master cylinder be knackered ?

Update - oddly there seems good pressure when the engine is not running, as soon as the engine starts the pressure drops and I can't engage gear. I know the clutch isn't power assisted, but very strange.

Another update to the last one. If I engage gear first then start the engine, biting point is at the bottom of the clutch travel and the car is creeping forward and there is a clutch burning smell !!

when I did mine I had to finish the bleed at the master cylinder

Thanks for the reply. I've tried finishing on the slave and on the master. Been under and over the truck most of today, it's frustrating the hell out of me. Im thinking the clutch plate may have worn. I've had the terrano since 2008 and have put about 80k miles on it and it was the same clutch when I bought it.

Mine was shot, check rubber behind pedal for weeping or stainage :thumb2 any signs at all change it.
