yes if yours is the round headlight model it will fit, what makes you think it is the thrust bearing? by laying under the motor and pushing the clutch arm into the slave cylinder you can stop the thrust rotating, if it is the bearing any noise will stop, if not it is in the box, loads a money, Rick

When not in gear and the clutch down its nice and quite, when I lift the clutch still not in gear it rumbles like hell and seems to be getting worse. Also engine seems noisier this last week or so... Also if I push the clutch down 3 or 4 times in a row it can stop making the noise...

Next time I take it to my mates garage I will put it on the ramp and have a look at pushing the clutch arm into the slave cylinder though...

sounds like first motion shaft bearing or layshaft bearings, my motor has had a whine from these for the last 10,000 miles I will address it when it breaks and not before, Rick

I have the same problem with the new truck i have just bought. And i think im in the same opinion as Rick. :naughty

It drives lovely, just a bit noisy, but thats why you have a radio :lol

I agree with the above :thumb2

I agree with Plank agreeing with the above.

I don't think that it will be the bearing, as that should be noisy when clutch depressed. .?

I suppose it could be a bit of both! noisy thrust bearing and gearbox issues.

Make sure you refill the gear box with GL4! Smith the oil then sniff the stuff that comes out, GL5 has loads of sulfur and the smell difference is obvious.

Sulfur wrecks these gear boxes, so if the man in the shop says GL5 will do he is very, very wrong!

you may find the noise is due to it running with the wrong oil :doh

I have the noisy bearing too, press the clutch and it goes. Think it's worse since the clutch was changed 2 years ago. I'd love to change my gear oil but none of the garages I've taken it to over recent years have been able to release the drain plug. Don't think theres a great deal that can be done if the drain plug wont come out really.

drain plug is as easy as spit to remove, it is a standard BSP pipe thread taper plug, don't ask a garage to do it ask a plumber, you just heat it with a plumbers flame till you cannot touch it and it will almost fall out, never had one beat me yet, Rick,,,,, ps changing your oil will not help your noise, is it quiet in 4th if so it will be the layshaft

Sounds like the garages didn't want the job, as rick says, they will come out, just need to work on it.
But if it's still a bitch to move, then most garages have vacuum pump systems that sucks oil and fluid out, not the best way to renew your oil, but better than not doing it.

Had the car in the garage for 2 days...

Yesterday went to fit new disc's and pads as breaks where shite... Found discs and pads with plenty of life left but sliders all jammed solid.

Managed to get 3 of the sliders out with some "gentle" persuasion, snapped the 4th one and had to drill and bash out :(

New slider from scrap yard and all 4 fitted and greased up, breaks working wonderfull etc etc.

Today put back on the ramp and changed the clutch. Had a real hard time taking the torsion bars out but eventually got it sorted and removed gear box, clutch looked like new and clutch bearing was fine?!?! Lay shaft bearing was ok too...

Fitted new clutch kit and built back up, cluth is like new, nice and soft and no more grumble when clutch is depressed in neutral.

Also drove to pick up the wheels I won on eBay last night, wheels are 16" steel but in bad shape, tyres are like new! 205 80 16's two different types but with probably 10/12mm of tread each, not bad for a tenner :)

Now the only problem is misfire/struggle to start, checked and changed fuel filter, cleaned banjo filter, fitted new spark plugs, changed both battery terminals and possitive was cracked and negative was loose. Last thought is too put a load of injector cleaner in and hope for the best, any other reason why it turns and turns but won't start... Think I have most of it covered...

No it wont fix the noise, but it is wise to make sure you have the right oil in the gearbox! :thumb2
