Hi all,.
I asked a good while back about trouble getting first gear on the Terrano. Suggestion was the slave cylinder and/or flexi hose.
This happens after about 10 miles of driving. It's fine when cold but heat is having an effect on something. It starts by being difficult to get into 1st gear and ends after a few more miles which gnashing of teeth. Garage who replaced the master cylinder to no effect and said the slave was fine said (after I got the thing hot and demonstrated it properly) "it's the synchromesh".
Replacement gearbox job.
My old Landy SIIA had no synchro on 1st and I didn't have this problem. Has long as the wheels were stationary, you could get 1st. Not with the terrano. To my mind, if the clutch is properly disengaged there should be no grinding at all. Input to gearbox stationary (or sufficiently detached from the flywheel to have no friction) and wheels stationary, what's to grind?
Anyhoo, I'm no expert on gearboxes so can anyone see that this could be a synchromesh problem. I do know the gearbox 'blew up' 50k miles ago so I don't have full faith in it.
And finally, have read the monster thread on the clutch clevis pin bushes. Mine 'expired' when the master cylider was done (had been lifting with the foot for a while). The bushes Nissan supplied didn't fit. Too small. Any one had this problem? Might try these pipe inserts mentioned in the thread: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/271143300...AX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649#ht_1680wt_932
