I didn't know which section this peculiar issue should come under so forgive me if it should be somewhere else. :doh

A few weeks ago I was aware of a loud clicking noise just below the steering wheel when making large turns. Over time it got worse with more clicking / clunking snapping noises. I thought it was the indicator module disintegrating but it all works fine.

I've had the covers off and I still cannot see what could be causing these unsettling disturbing sounds.

Any clues would be greatly appreciated.

I now also suffer with this. I've gotten well used to it though :p

This isn't the block of metal that comes off inside the steering wheel, is it?

There is some sort of weight thing that is in this area and it can fall out, not sure where it is or what it does, but there are threads on here about this thing falling out.
Not sure if this is what your experiencing though

Good place to start though, 20 second job :thumb2

You might as well empty your ash tray too, also a 20 second job.
I get rattles from mine from all the loose change for car parks ..

Now what else can you do to a Terrano in 20 seconds?:nenau

O.K - Finally got round to this. I removed the covers either side of the steering wheel and low ad behold there lurking was the bit of metal you guys told me about just lurking inside loose.
It took me 5 minutes fishing it out :clap but not before many horn blowing episodes causing all sorts of funny looks from various people in the hospital carpark where i work  ( well not in the carpark it'self - lunch break mission ).

I never thought it could be inside the steering wheel - it felt like it was comming from the column or stalk assemblies. This forum is worth it's weight in gold - many thanks guys :thumbs

Just another question - does this weight have anything to do with the airbag sensor?

Result... as you say, this place is a mine of information... Some is even helpful..:lol
