can anyone tell me what the steepest safe angle to climb with the lwb mav is It's not an auto and the ground is small rocks, some loose ,some semi buried and a wee bit rough many thanks

ouch ... now thats a tricky one what with safety in mind

my first answer is every obstacle should be judged and your do own risk assessment of the situation

now as walters arena is less than a mile away as is sarn helen. there are many climbs up there , i couldnt say the exact angle but im guessing the good ones are between 45 - 55 degrees on loose rock some big bolders in the way to liven things up.

we got mud ones too deep ruts so your dragging your dif allong the ground similar angle

these are all quite long climbs too,as you'd expect being wales

short ditch crossing say 3-3 cars length id say 60- 65 degrees is common here (easier cos you got a shorter fall)

i will try most things going up, but im a bit shy going down

doughter uses maxis mudders, i use a/t's

I have a very large ajustable square It's certainly clearing 50 and about 1/2to 3/4 ml straight up I'll go back up for another look on boxing day and get some pics but having probs transfering them to the computor

OOO! Alan you'll have to take me there next time we come for a visit!!:thumbs:sly

I did let you see it but it was very brief, and when we were watching the vulcan you were very close to the other end of the route. It's steep and I took the bike up and over 20 yr s ago Now they have put a little gate up about 1ft of the ground which i would be able to open' but It would have to be done very early in the morning ! may be better in the summer when there is light mornings ! before anyone sane is up. I am going to have a wee look on boxing day? and am keen to try before I go back to work . I am not going to tell the boss at the moment , if I have the camera with me I could take a few pics and It would be to late for her to give me a row It may be safer for me to walk the whole route and give it further thought.Let you know soon what i find weather permitting have a lovely christmas with the family

Ahh! i remember that one,the one with the gate at the bottom!! would be interesting but your Mav and my T2 would make it in Low box pal!!:thumbs:augie

I'll have a look and keep you informed By the way MERRY CHRISTMAS

The climb

I went on the climb today by foot this is a goody.trespass laws are very complex and apparently we have no green lanes in scotland , well we will see this route is about 3mls
long' and I don,t think to difficult but their are a few wee tricky bits' the plus side is the scenery is spectacular. A few years ago they put a wee gate at each end but before the gate I took a Benley twin 200 honda up and along the route. I Is quite steep at one end with a lot of bolders and a crack in the road which is a challenge in places but I have found access in from the steep end where I would require a second opinion.from the other end we could go round the gate ,over the heather and a toy wall that never used to be there It's only 9inches to a 1ft and dry built I will continue to monitor and do more research . If Anyone would like to see the route I am hopeing to have a cam corder soon(I live in hope ) Or pm cosmic he knows where it is if any one wants to come for a look It can be arranged best wishes .I think summer time early early morning would be perfect and we could make that a setting for the most wonderfull long day and a barbi at night .

Excuse me jumping in, but that isn't strictly true.

There are no Definitive Maps in Scotland because the National Parks and Access to the Countryside. Act 1949 did not apply. This means that there are no BOATs in Scotland. As a general rule also, Highway Authorities are not responsible for maintaining unsealed ways in Scotland, so there are no unsealed ORPAs either.

This doesn 't, though, mean that there are no unsealed vehicular RoW. There are - but not many are known or recorded. The Scotways database has about 140 recorded. Most of the useful ones are also recorded on Trailwise - http://www.trailwise.org.uk/ (and on Wayfinder too).

Cheers

There are plenty tracks about but if you go wondering up them with your 4x4 then the gamekeepers spot ya,you'll be getting asked all sorts of Q's if you ain't got the permission.

Can you actually get permission from landowners to drive on estate tracks, without doling out loads of shekels?

Cheers
Andrew
