So when I went to rescue that terrano the other day, I popped the old 4wd on, drove 20/30 yards no issues. Parked up against tree, engine must have been running for 20/30 mins, once he was free we followed him back to dry land :lol

When driving in 4wd at first like a revolution noise I was getting a squeak, squeak, squeak the faster I go the faster it squeaked, this stopped after 30 seconds or so.

The one other thing I noticed is what sounded like the old cv joint click :(

I just replaced the drivers side with Rick, we also did the inner boot too. The other one looked solid with no tears ect, any suggestions :nenau

The 4wd was working but it's a bit disheartening :(

Not sure if you have auto hubs on yours, But clicking sounds could be one sticking.

Should have specified, it only happens in 4wd, once back in 2wd noise is not present. :thumb2

sounds like auto hubs need a strip and re-grease............my manuals dont seem so silly now do they :lol

not got auto hubs on yours alex.
fixed flange type on the later models.

/nope you don't have auto hubs Alex:thumbs i've had a similar squeak/grind noise which turned out to be a stone that had been kicked up & jamed between the disc & backing plate & was a real pig to get out:doh

and only in 4wd

seems to sounds like cv syndrome *CRY EMOTE NEEDED AGAIN*

Be thankful you can get low range!!!

Mine wont even go in, need to remove the guide apparently, just haven't had time to tackle it yet :doh

Except you have fixed hubs so your cv's will be turning all the time whether you're in 4wd or not bud.

Rightly so.i had an annoying noise when in 4wd and it turned out to be the heat shield on the exhaust rubbing on the front prop shaft.

Lots of views on this, it does sounds like my last cv takatakatakatakataka noise :lol

And this wasn't rubbing in 2wd? Or just coz it wasn't turning? :nenau

Wonder if it would be worth checking the front UJ's in case they are out of grease & squeaking when under load:augie you getting any vibration at all when driving normally

Yeah I remember you mentioning but Elty said he had this noise in 4wd only, I wondered how it only made noise in 4wd :thumb2

I'm not up on the Terrano auto/fixed hub changeover date but perhaps Elty had auto hubs as then the front drivetrain wouldn't be turning in 2wd :nenau
