X-Trail is monocoque so you won't be able to body lift it as there's no separate chassis.

Lame!!! I did think it was but just went with it as I presume Jay might have already spotted that being underneath it so often :lol

I knew that it was, but I have watched this Japanese guys videos on YouTube, and he had something custom made to lift his T31. It seemed to lift the body and non of the running gear. (Not that I think we will go to that extreme!)

Yes, I had thought of these... May ony go with 10mm tho. (The Pedders kit gave me 30mm, so a 20mm spacer could take me to CV joint breaking territory) :doh

Today I got cracking with cutting away the inner wheel arches!

And also a little trim for the mud flaps.

And there it is back together.

The wheels still manage to rub on that metal seam. Obviously I can't grind that away... I don't think. :nenau It probably holds the car together!

Gave the Mini Beast another ornament for its front end and took her out for a spin on the back roads!

Could you not just flatten the seam:nenau
I gave mine a bit of hammer action on all of my terranos to give that much needed clearance.

That's a canny plan.

It's funny how the obvious can be overlooked. :lol

Is there any special technique, or just tap away at it?

Just hammer away.
Only thing to watch is it doesn't split but never had that happen and I've done a few over the years.

Cool... Next time I get a few minutes, its wheels off again! :lol

So the over riding question I have at this point is, is it worth the the effort and cost to do this, for what seems to be:nenau not much gain in suspension stroke and better gripping rubber?

If you get great pleasure from modifying vehicles then yes.
End of the day you have to think about what you want from your vehicle and do what suits your needs:thumb2

You've hit the nail on the head Elty.

For me, it's worth it. I LOVE the look it's achieved and I enjoy tinkering with stuff.

For Claire it's a bit different... She frets over the wheels rubbing, and would prefer it was right straight away! (Wouldn't we all!?) Welcome to the world of car modification! My Patrol rubbed the arches for ages before I got round to doing anything about it! :lol:lol:lol

If the Pedders kit lifted as much as it claimed it would, I don't think that there would be this arch issue, and the effort so far would seem a whole lot less.

Pedders have been excellent though. They listened to my concern, they talked to me on the phone as I went through all my before/after measurements and then they agreed to refund me the money for me to buy strut/coil spaces to achieve the desired amount of lift.

I said to Claire, we should wait till the spacers are fitted before we decide to cut into the arches... We may not even need to! But she couldn't stand the squeaking of rubber on plastic and so they were cut! Oh well!

I should add, with the lift as is and the bigger tyres, we have currently gained 60mm of extra ground clearance. The spacers are 30mm, so that's gonna give us 90mm... Thats near enough 4" in old money! :naughty
