So it's time for me to start putting some thought into that lift again.

Given that we only achieved 30mm from the Pedders kit, I'm going to add strut spacers to the front and coil spacers to the back. I believe I have the option of 10mm, 20mm 30mm and 40mm sets.

At first, I thought, "Great! I'll get the 40mm set and that will give us 70mm of lift!"

But now I'm starting to worry about CV angles, joints and stuff... This independent suspension seems a whole lot more complicated than the live axles on the Patrol! :confused:

Has anyone got any thoughts on that?
 
I do not know much about the Xtrail but yes keep a close watch on CV angles, a body lift might be a better option, Rick

Same problems as we have with the Terrano mate, you can only go so high before you start getting silly CV angles, mine is that stupid that my CV boots slip off :doh
 
Could that be solved by bigger/longer(?) boots?

I suppose I'd be more worried about the angle and popping a joint.
 
Have I got this right?
Atm I have fixed front hubs so the front shafts and prop are turning all the time, even in 2WD. If I fitted FWHs the above would only turn if I select 4WD or switched the hubs to lock.
If I am right, the angle would only be a problem causing wear in 4WD............

Does the x-trail have the option to not turn the front hubs/prop.
 
The X-Trail is a different beast... It has 3 modes.

2WD - The transfer clutch is disengaged sending power only to the FRONT wheels. (The rear wheels can sometimes be engaged by the ECU, for example under heavy acceleration)

Auto - The rear wheels engage automatically when the front wheels start to slip. Power can vary from 100/0 to 50/50 front to rear. (This is comparable to an Automatic AWD system)

Lock - The transfer clutch is engaged and power is sent 50/50 front and rear. (If the vehicle speed is increased the vehicle automatically goes into 'Auto' mode, then back to 'Lock' as the speed decreases)

If the transfer oil gets too hot, it switched automatically to 2WD.

Which amounts to...… keep an eye on the front shaft angles :eek:
