I run Cooper Discovery sports 235/70/16 on the Mav with no probs, they are completly silent too  but then again I wouldn't take the Mav up Roych

The Cooper Discoverer ST is a 60/40 (off/on road) tyre that supposedly does better in mud than the BFG All Terrain, but yet isn't a full MT. I haven't looked at prices for them, but I bet they're more than the Grabber AT2s.

Roych? Oh, ye of little faith.

Cheers

- we're starting by driving Roych at

Hope you have better tyres this time then, cos those steps are blummin slippery. Rest of route Ok though.

Roych Clough? The Patrol creamed it. It was awesome. Bridgestone road tyres or not it was a cake walk. Straight up with not a single problem. The only things that touched the road were the tyres!! I'm well impressed.

Talking of cake - I've had hardly anything to eat all day. Must go and find food.

Back later ........

Cheers

Glad you managed it Ok, boy were there some groups out today.

Met a Belguim contingent, unfortunaltly they had just done Shatton. Sometimes its just better to say Hello and enjoy yourself than say Oops.

Managed Stanage Ok too, and Iandouglas did it in his TII so that was good.

So there's hope for me and my T2 on Stanage yet CM??

Sorry not with a LWB unless you don't mind the odd dink or twelve  but if you want to try I'll lead you, can't say fairer than that.

I would always advise you not to, as I did to a Mistral today, but can't stop you should you be daft enough to try

STANNAGE VIA REDMIRES

THANKS ANDY. For the photos
I will be honest now and admit that when i saw the size of the rocks and you bouncing off them in the disco i was a little apprehensive about taking the terrano over them ,i realise if i had slipped of waffles i could have done some damage. but thanks to a spotter and a waffle road and coments from group two about the terrano is stuck i thought NO WAY trust the spotter and go , steady does it and down she went sat on the rock guards a couple of times on the way down.
BIG SMILE ON MY FACE SAID IT ALL . :p :p :p :p :p

You met them too, eh?

We met at the junction above Beet Farm at around 10am. Whilst we were waiting for a straggler, a convoy of 14 (Belgians) came up behind us. We moved aside to let them pass - and 100 yds further down the track, one of them broke down and it took about half an hour for them to move on so we could get past. :(

OTOH, Paul Bannerman (one of our mob - Manchester GLASS Rep) went down to say hello and they gave him a case of lager. They were all standing around watching the driver of the broken down truck trying to fix it drinking wine & champagne. I'm not convinced that they really understand that they were on a public road and that we have laws about alcohol. Ho hum ......

One lane you could do with adding to the list for Green Lane days is Monsall Head, if it isn't already. (SK1571-4a on Wayfinder). What a cracker .... steep rocky climb, great views, lots of Belgians.

Cheers
Andrew

Photo,s say it all Ian,Just shows what a terrano can do.Not a very nice place for a lwb terrano.Glad you and Sheila enjoyed the day.Like the waffles, just like the ones on the m42.Dinky

Cracking day out yesterday on the C.O.R.C. event Andy - great pics. Glad all enjoyed it.

Sorry I couldn't make this weekend (but it's only the second weekend I've had off since beggining of September and out every one between now n Xmas).

Certainly coming down Stanage is easier than trying to go up it. I agree with you a LWB Nissan would be a no-no. SWB are ok if you've got lots of waffles and a good spotter.

A couple of years ago, Chris (Doodlebug) and me took Stumpy in a std SWB Terrano UP Stanage, but he was sandwiched between Doodle's and me - he made it up ok, but I wouldn't like to take more than one at a time up there, with 'experience' front n back.

I think I'll keep away from Stanage for now. The Patrol has a 117 inch wheelbase, so I'd be asking for it, if I tried. My bet is that the Patrol would, with care, manage it without a problem - but for a recent shiny, the downside risk is too great if I'm wrong or if I screw up.

If you ever see a stock Disco3 do it without a problem (approx same wheelbase, I think), maybe I'll give it a go. Until then ............

Disco3 wheel base is: 114"

RR Classic, Disco 1 & 2 and Freelander: 100"

Hope this helps .............

Without checking the wayfinder site, I'm guessing what you call Monsal head is what I call Bull Tor lane, normally always on a days outing (you missed it last time) End of Dec we will be going down it 8) The stretch around Brushfield farm used to be a severe mud run but has just been resurfaced and levelled :(

Yes I hit a rock on Stanage and knocked some trim loose (again) but thats why I have two 4x4s, one for work one for play

Looks like I missed a another good day!!

Cant wait till next outing........I keep driving on the grass verge to get the experience back

Yes, I think so. They are separate lanes on Wayfinder, though. I meant the eastern end, starting at SK 177 721 to SK 159 715

Yes, sorry I know you did, on my route cards I lump em all together as one long off road strech about 2 1/2 miles. Its a classic Derbyshire route and one not to miss. I would like to do it in darkness too, but really don't like passing the cottages after dark so have always missed it out. I feel that this would be too much intusuion on peoples property - despite it being legal. I tend to think - well i wouldn't want it.

It also featured in the 4x4 magazine articel i wrote for Mays issue on Nissans off road.

Some 4x4 mags use this route and Houndkirk moor as standard test routes for proving loan 4x4s
