We live on Shaw road, Royton.

So, if you fancied a practice, you could pop into Shaw and turn up Mark Lane and then you could drive up the only unsurfaced BOAT (Byway Open to All Traffic) in Oldham.

It's here .. http://www.streetmap.co.uk/streetmap.dll?G2M?X=394470&Y=408815&A=Y&Z=3

If the mood took you, you could wander along Harrop Edge Lane (the avatar on my post was taken there). That's here http://www.streetmap.co.uk/streetmap.dll?G2M?X=400075&Y=408955&A=Y&Z=3

At least, if you've never had the motor in 4 wheel drive, you could have a bit of a quiet practice on something dead easy.

If you happen to be driving up Whinberry Way and see a silver Nissan Patrol parked at the far end of Juniper Close, it's probably mine.

Cheers

once had to spend the night in my van due to flat battery miles away from anywhere and the next morning it started first time :?

no fear of being stranded Ian, I got a full phone signal, Mind you was funny when Dad came from back of Disco to front with hammer in hand, I was trying really hard not to laugh!! (sorry Dad)

we were going to have a run out saturday but decided to stay home and warm. :p

hmmmm staying home with a pile of ironing or out in the Disco playing in the mud... getting stuck... attempting to push very heavy 4x4 out of ruts, steering said vehicle while lycra & leather clad men pushed :?: :?: I think I made the right choice   hehe

The things we do for fun, was debatable saturday

I'm not going down (or up) Stanage, but if you happen to see a couple of Defender 90s, a Disco 2 and a silver Nissan Patrol on Saturday, that just might be me and a few Manchester GLASS members.

We don't get up as early as you chaps - we're starting by driving Roych at about 10am. Have fun .........

Cheers

Hope you have better tyres this time then, cos those steps are blummin slippery. Rest of route Ok though.

I don't really think the tyres played a significant part when I lost traction on Leeside. Maybe the Patrol did, because its track is about 8ins wider (yes, really!!!) than a Terranos, so the tyres were on tree roots on the driver's side (which are really slippery) rather than on the track itself. The only thing that would have got the Patrol over that (concrete?) step at the steepest part is momentum, which is exactly what I didn't have. Like I said in another post - driver error.

I'd be surprised if the Patrol doesn't clean Roych easily, even on stock Bridgestone Duelers (but then again, I'm often surprised).

I think you may lose traction again with the Duellers on  My T2 used to lose traction on wet grass when I had them on so I binned then & got my Falken AT's & have'nt suffered since

My old Patrol (SWB) and quite wide, used to romp up Roych and Leeside on ATs with no probs even in wet and snow. But the differance was that it was on 35/12.5s giving it immense ground clearance.

I have never taken this club up Roch or Stanage as I don't think the TIIs/Mavs in standard form will make it with out either damage or whinches. But I stand to be corrected if someone wants to try
