Chassis problem with 2004 SWB Terrano

Christ, that looks like it's live on a beach all it's life and been used as a launch bitch.
Defo take it back and get VOSA in, as already said.

Unless you put the yellow chalk on it, it's been highlighted before and failed.

Got any pictures of the whole vehicle, it may be a ringer and is just had 04 plates put an an older vehicle. :nenau
 
These trucks are well off the ground, so it is quite easy to notice this sort of rust.:nenau

We nearly bought a near new Fiesta a few years back, but then I noticed a new hinge pin fitted to the driver's door... Alarm bells... I then noticed over spray...:eek:

So it had been involved in a bump...

My son was going to buy a nearly new Audi A4.. but he took me along... some overspray on the front wing and a slightly different gloss to the wing than the other side... Hmmm... walk away time.

In the end we found an Audi A3, private sale, I couldn't find any fault with it, the disc wear was in proportion to the mileage and also the receipt for new tyres was also proportional to the age and declared mileage.
I was present when a cold start done, to see and hear of any potential problems.
Torch and mat to look underneath too...

The problem with nearly new cars is that they don't have a recent MOT history, so mileage is difficult to prove.

The car performed fantastically for several years, before we had to sell it as he moved to work abroad. The new owner was so impressed with it's condition they had a private plate put on it.

There are good motors out there...but many more rogues...
 
you have 30 days private or dealer to start the refund process. i would also check the vin numbers against the log book, and also for any tampering with them. that is terrible rust on a ten year old vehicle, never seen any car that young that bad.i would take a trip to the mot garage too. good luck, mike.
 
Poor old Mike, he must feel gutted :(

I am no expert, but the T2 I am getting (if it gets an MOT, although if Mike's did then so can this one), but it did look quite rusty/flaky underneath... :confused:
 
That is disgusting mate!!!!! No way should an 04' plate have that much rot unless as said it has spent most of it's life launching boats or on a beach

Firstly, get back to where you brought it from, demand a full refund followed by a threat of legal action, def get VOSA involved, as started yellow chalk means that it's already been flagged before on an MOT, so that must be a dodgy one

Check all of the VIN locations on the chassis and check for tampering
 
Thanks for all the advice guys. Been busy today making enquiries. Bought this vehicle from a trader in England and brought it over here (NI) last Friday.
 
I am sure many will remember some time ago I had the tube and mounts rot away on my T2, cut a good one from a scrapper and stitched it in, BUT the main chassis was good so had good metal to weld to, here you have nothing, it could be repaired but with great difficulty with the body on and an appraisal of the rest of the chassis would be needed first to make sure there are no other nasties, as stated check the vin number stamped on the chassis just under the drivers door as this does sound odd, once armed with all the facts contact the dealer and try to persuade him to take it back and cover your costs, under threat of going to the law, if you do go to the law you will likely loose out financially, unless you can afford good legal help, Rick
 
It can be fixed but it's a body off job (check my fb signature for pics) really it's no worth your while, private or trade I'd take it back & complain to vosa about mot, that's some dangerous stuff!:eek::surrender
 
I think it illustrates the weakness of the English MOT system. Over here in N.Ireland, we have government centres with state of the art testing equipment. The testers are well trained and have no interest in failing a vehicle in order to do remedial work. Its a very straight system. I believe it was introduced many years ago as the template for what was going to be rolled out across the UK, but the government of the time decided not to bother. Probably would have upset too many of their party donors who run vehicle testing businesses.

Nice chassis thread makeitfit, now I feel even more nervous :lol

If anything like that happens, I am knackered as I can't weld and paying someone would be loads £££££££££££££££££

Get mot history online see if it failed on rust previously, then straight to vosa without touching anything
