Hi chaps - the car is being put through a government centre MOT tomorrow. I want to get an official report on its roadworthiness and then I will know where I stand. The dealer I bought the car from got it at an auction after the MOT had been granted a few days earlier. Both he and I have been unlucky.

This trail will lead back to the dodgy MOT garage and the previous owner. I'll put some pictures of the car up later. It looks terrific. The nicest one I had seen and I've been looking for some time.

Full Nissan service history every 6000 miles and low mileage. Underneath its just a bag of spanners. No mention of rust in any of the previous MOTs.

They'll put a prohibition notice on that mate, the only way they'll let it back out through the gates is on a recovery wagon.

Funny enough, mine has just had £300 worth of chassis welding done, it's up for test tomorrow too.

but no he has not been unlucky, he is a dealer ffs, he should be on the ball to such things, if he bought it unchecked and then sold it to you then it his fault and is fully responsible, Rick

Needless to say chaps, the vehicle failed miserably. The testers said they had never seen a chassis in such a bad way.

First time in my life I have ever wanted a car to fail. The centres over here are absolutely terrific. State of the art equipment in state of the art facilities. We have 17 centres throughout N.Ireland and they test all our vehicles. The staff themselves have to pass competency tests every year. It certainly gives more confidence than the system used on the mainland.

But back to the Terrano - I've made further enquiries and this looks more serious and in depth than I imagined. There may be many persons involved in this and as criminal charges may be likely, I feel I can no longer comment any further in the interests of justice.

Well kind of a result in the fail so to speak, understand on no more info.

All the best in sorting it out, it's agro that you don't need. That will be the first place I will look if I get the Terrano after the MOT :thumb2

I'm really sorry to read this thread from the beginning, it does sound very serious from what you have said. Well all the best getting this sorted out and I really hope you don't lose out financially. Please stay on the forum and don't feel that this is Nissan 4wd ownership because it is not. When you feel it is appropriate then please give us an update I'm pretty sure we are all genuinely interested and wish you all the best.

Thanks again for all the interest, advice and replies. Should have mentioned a prohibition order has been placed on the vehicle and its locked up at the MOT centre. Can only be transported not driven.

Hopefully some heads will roll at the end of this, and at this stage not much more can be said, as you say in the interests of justice, (does that really exist?), in the mean time you are without a car and your money, that is why I suggested you go back to the dealer for a refund plus expenses, and once that had been sorted, as I am sure it would on confrontation of the pics and the threat of direct legal action, I would then have reported the MOT place, but that is just the way I would have done it, Rick

sorry

If all else fails remember the sale of goods act - a item must be fit for purpose at the point of sale

good luck in the end please name and shame

ask for a refund

Might be easiest to go back to the dealer for a refund on the basis of not being of merchantisable quality.

Bit too late now as the truck's impounded effectively .
A fair bit of cost involved now to get it on a flatbed and then lorry rate ferry crossing then journey to dealer and then a fight

I was thinking its the dealers problem to get the car back.

Just for anyone who's interested, this is the way cars are tested here in Northern Ireland.

These centres are operated by the government and there are seventeen in operation across the province. Local garages cannot MOT cars over here.

The centre in the video is quiet for filming purposes, but in reality all lanes are usually in use. The centre I took the Terrano to has seven lanes.

The test takes up to 20 minutes, and all the test readings are collected and stored electronically on the database.

The car test costs £30.50 and if required the retest is £18.50. The centres open from 8am and up to 8pm. As these centres are staff intensive, I've been told the government would like to save money by closing them down and introducing the local garage system thats used on the mainland. I hope to God that never happens as this is a system we can have confidence in.

The test centres look good, they are similar in the UK but for commercial vehicles where we used to take out fuel tankers.
