Chassis problem with 2004 SWB Terrano

Recently bought an 04 Terrano SWB with full Nissan service history and 69k on the clock. Has a recent MOT with no advisories. The condition of the interior and bodywork is great, but having a previous Terrano, I wanted to put it up on the ramps and check the underbody for corrosion, clean it up and spray some sealer.

Everything seemed ok apart for two scary areas above each rear wheel. This photo is of the offside rear arch area.


The question is, can this be fixed and is it likely to be expensive?

I noticed that, makes me wonder if it's a dodgy MOT:augie I can't weld so wouldn't like to say how much of a job it would be to fix but makeitfit will prob know:thumb2 If it's to far gone the other option would be to find another SWB with a good chassis & rotten body & do a body swap & at the same time pick the best engine & gearbox or spray a load of underseal on the chassis & sell it fast

it's fixable but i wouldn't like to weld it and i've welded some some scary places on these, the whole area looks shot, only real way to tell would be to grind back to good metal if there is any, the only way that got an mot is from a backhander, my advice is cut ya losses because who ever welds that up is gonna be on there arse for a long time

This is always a tricky scenario now it's been bought, yes it's obviously an mot written on a napkin but now you've got her its always mega hassle to return a vehicle. I would say yes, sand back the rust and see what you are truly dealing with, and find someone who can do some welding.

And also if you look at it another way you're saving a terrano from the scrappers, good engine, full history, good body.

I tried to back my old Honda unsuccessfully. Although if you were to sand it back, show vosa and get in contact with the garage that'd be a goodun

Best way to fix that is new chassis other than you you need to get good section cut from a good chassis can prob help you out with either option

I would send the pics to vosa and tell them who where and when they moted it and then like the others say seek legal help

did you buy from a stealer?
even private I would go back with these pics. this is deffinatly not road worthy

Did you buy from a garage? If so get it taken back. That to me looks unroadworthy, doesn't matter if a garage sold with no warranty. If no joy get trading standards in.
If a private sale you would be lucky to get money back I reckon. That said there are laws that may help.
By all means complain and report to vosa but not sure you would get any money back as they would be more interested in stringing the mot station out to dry.

Looks like a major fix and likely to be a body off chassis job but I'm no expert.

Never seen a Terrano as bad as that before.

That's a stinking aweful bit of chassis, and I should know
Spring hanger goosed and chassis is mush so nothing to weld to. As said above a large unknown section of chassis needs cutting out and refabricating Also looks like chassis cross member is cooked too. It is doable but with body on it's going to cost you big time !
Ring VOSA it's got to be a mickey mouse mot. If it was from a stealer take it back :whip:

Forgot to say, don't drive it . One good bump and you're going to have your axle in the boot.

Take it back to the MOT station (address on MOT), moan like feck, threaten VOSA, complain to the seller, company or private seller. Citizens advice can point you in the right direction for legal action.

And DON'T drive it, it's shot to bits and could fail at anytime, if you have an accident the insurance company will NOT pay out as the vehicle is not roadworthy.

because the garage where it was moted are doing doggy mot's and should be shut down . how many more cars have they sold that are unfit for the road . you would be p*ssed if a car like that hit your car or cause a accident that killed someone
