I wouldn't, I don't need any more encouragement to go and live in the country in a Caravan somewhere with my Terrano :naughty

You are a strange complicated little man.

But we like ya!

:D

Have you done the cam sensor? Really common failure on them you have to cut old ones wire in order to get them out and the new one comes with longer wire as you have to route them differently as won't go through original hole as fitted with engine out of the car from new. Nice looking motor and with the best wheels I had 3 cavs back in the day and always made sure they were around k reg as had the super fast clutch change system. You could do them in 20 mins and all you did was remove road wheel on that side a few covers pop some clips on pull a rod and it fell out, new clutch came compressed with clips and pop it back in best design ever id love another cavvy

Also the 2 litre ne 8v engine if cambelt broke just slap on another and off you go. I've done that a few time on side of a road too for a few back in the day

I do have a soft spot for a decent cav, gsi man myself but I'd like to own a turbo at some point.
Not a fan of the problem renowned ecotec though unfortunately.

Looks a tidy example though dude :thumb2

Tidy is an understatement, it needs to be seen and sat in!!! Driving it is just another level!!!!!

I've heard the EcoTec isn't the most favoured, that gasket going like that is a bit crappy :(

That cam sensor doesn't sound like a very nice job :(

Its was bud but don't be confused by longer wire its done on purpose as you cant put it how oe one is. This was for vectras so cav maybe ok but same engine. And I only had redtops or v6s as I'm always power hungry lol and turbos were and still are sillly money even if you can find a decent one

Interior Pics & Rear Arches

I valeted the interior the other day, didn't really need it, the rear didn't even need hoovering, as far as the previous owner knew of, he said that nobody since he'd owned it had sat in the back, made sense as when I tried to open the back door I had to hang off it before it opened :lol

There has to be some bad points doesn't there!!!! :(

Good points look to be that the paint on the rear arches is original and after an underneath inspection it doesn't appear to have had any welding done at all, I'd been told that the rear arches on these are notorious for rotting away, pictures I've seen of some have confirmed this for me

Here are mine which I'm pretty pleased with

Cracking motor Banshee, what are you going to do with it. Mod it or keep it original for Sunday afternoon trip out.

It's going to be tidied up as it was standard from the factory and then sold :(

I'd love to keep it but space and funds say no!! :doh

Oh man that's gutting isn't it:doh
It would have been more gutting that it wasn't even running and was weeks from ending up in the scrap yard near where I work, I got wind of it and intervened!!!

I couldn't see that with doors missing and 3 other cars on top of it!!! I'm giving it a new lease of life and it will hopefully go to an enthusiast, fingers crossed

The Inevitable

So the new manifold gasket came in the post last week whilst I was on holiday. I got round to fitting it today and the inevitable happened. Whilst I was tightening the nut onto the stud (top left stud) I overtightened and have snapped the stud off.

I was going to try and weld a nut on and wind it out as if I get a MIG on it the weld will on;y stick to the mild steel stud and not the ally head but I've read online that it's not a clever idea as I don't want the head to warp :(

I'm going to buy a screw extractor kit tomorrow to get it out, I was well annoyed but I suppose it could have been in a worse position, I'm sure I should be able to get in with the cordless drill, even if it potentially means having to remove the radiator to get a straight shot at it.

I've read up and seen that apparently Vauxhall somewhere down the line swapped the mild steel studs for Stainless studs that are stronger so going to get some of those

Oil change and some pics

I decided that I was going to do an oil and filter change on the car today as the car had been standing for nearly 2 years unused, I also ran a can of Wynne's Engine Flush through it before I drained the oil as I've read good reviews online that with the X20XEV engine it has been proven to quieten down noisy hydraulic lifters.

Drained the oil and it was a nice colour to it and no junk so there was life in it and the Mann filter that was on it wasn't too old either but I'd rather know it's fresh again. Refilled with 4 litres of 10W 40 Multi Grade and it's now quieter as a result I feel, still the annoying exhaust clatter though :grr:

I also decided to take a few more pics of it as I took it for a run out

Fault Codes

I also did the paperclip trick today on the diagnostics plug in the engine bay to see what fault codes were stored on the car.

I got;

19 - Incorrect Revs per Minute (RPM) singal (crankshaft sensor) Replace Sensor
73 - Mass Air Flow Sensor - Voltage Low - Clean MAF

The crankshaft sensor seems like a real pain in the bottom to get to and replace, I've cleaned the MAF and that will be going back in the car tomorrow, at which point I'll clear the codes and read again after another run
