Changing my horn

I have an X reg Terrano II and I want to change the horn, as it has a feeble sound. I just want to put in a deeper and louder one - not something reminiscent of the Dukes of Hazard, or really obnoxious. Most of the ones I've seen on eBay state they are 'loud' ones, or ones that 'get you noticed'.

Does anyone have any suggestions?
Also, will I need 1 or 2 and will I need a twin pole one or not?

ive got the x reg & recently had my air horns connected i cant be of much use fitting as the local electrician brought them to life! , i had a few drivers who cut me up on junctions & roundabouts , they are twin horns was on when i got the car but not connected the original gave a meer quite peep now its a HORN!! ebay have plenty pretty cheap the trician charged me £20 so i left the motor an hr job sorted..the sound doesnt blast you with high decibels but lots better than the original

I bought a pair off eBay (item no. 110873590143), £7.00 incl. p&p, thet are LOUD - easy to fit, just remove the radiator grille, pull the spade connectors off the old ones and unbolt them (just one bolt holding each horn), fit the new ones using the same bolt, refit the spade connectors and bob's your aunty!

Just ordered a set of these, then had a look behind grill and can only see one horn on my 2005 commercial . Do you think I can just split and extend wiring to add second horn or just fit the one? Not sure if it's standard to just have one horn on newer models.

I fitted a pair of these to my car 380361536824 form ebay.
I split my wiring between 2 horns and they are much louder than the standard single peep peep:thumb2

Just bought same ones only thing is I have only one horn on mine.looks like one wire is live and one to earth. What I was going to do was remove the two wires from my orginal horn ,fit new horn and put double spad connector on one new horn,connect original wires back on and run two more new wires from double spad connector to other horn,should work just the same do you think?

That should do the trick.
Usually horns are relay-activated and the rating of the relay would be matched to the demands of the horn, but I can't see Mr. Nissan fitting a different relay just because he's too tight to fit twin horns to a commercial!

andy 4x4 horn change

hi all i bought a twin airhorn with built in compressor :thumb2 it has + and - terminals on the bottom, can i connect them to my existing wiring, or would i have to connect them to a relay. i hav`nt got a clue how to wire a relay,:nenau if anyone can advise me i would appreciate it thanks Andy.

Strangely, I did have just changed the horns on my Terrano2, as I thought they were feeble.

I had a pair of Fiamm horns like these in the garage.

I had to take the lights, and grill out to get to the old horns, and then discovered that the new ones were too big to fit in the same place.

I discovered that there are 2 unused threaded holes in the rail in front of the radiator, so mounted the horns flat using the bracket that comes with the horns, but the wrong way round, and the front one of these holes. The result it the silver grill on the horn front now show through each side of the slot in the front bumper. The only things I had to do, was make a 6" extension lead for the horn wire, and make an earth lead for the Fiamm ones, as they are 2 wire, rather than earthing through the mount.

Fitting it on the side where the Aircon Fan is, was a bit tight, but it worked very well, and I like the little Silver frills in the bumper slot.

thanks for the info, i `m tryin to get my head round the wiring, i wanted to keep the original horn, fit the air horn to a separate switch so if i blew the horn accidently early morn or late evening, i would`nt wake up half the valley .
so if i run an earth from a new switch to the - air horn, and run the live from the existing horn to the + air horn, in theory when i press the horn the original horn sounds, when i flick the new switch it earths the air horn so both horns should sound, do i need to fit a relay or can i get away with piggy backing the existing horn wiring loom. if someone can shed some light on this it would be great. thanks Andy.

If you are leaving the old horns in place, I would use a second relay etc for the air horns, as the compressor can draw a fair bit of current.

I found when I had Air horns before, that it was good to leave the old horns on as well, as there is a delay for the compressor to get up to speed, so the air horns are not instantaneous when you hit the button.

Most relays have 4 terminals with numbers on them. 30, 85, 86, 87.

Basically, you run a fused live from the battery, to one of the contacts on the relay (normally 30), the other contact (87) goes to the compressor, and the other side of the compressor goes to ground.

You then run a wire from one of the existing horns to one of the coil (86) terminals on the relay, and the other side of the relay coil (85) to ground.

When the horn is turned on, power runs through the relay coil, and magnetises it, to pull in a contact connecting the two contact terminals together. This then allows the power to run from the battery, through the relay, to the compressor and back to ground.

Fitted a pair of these this afternoon and they sound great,far better than my one horn I had. Only had one wire on my old horn also so just connected that and ran extra wire to other and earthed each to body work, worked a treat! Thanks great value at £7.00
