I think it was ready  I wouldn't have thought it's been done before & 105,000 miles later this is what it looks like

I couldn't remove the drain plug even with this & my foot on it

So I drained most of the oil using a syringe & a piece of tube, then I removed the cover & let it drained for a while.
Whilst it drained it was a good opportunity to clean up the cover & make a gasket.
I carefully removed the old gasket as I needed this a little later.

All I used was an old cereal box. I placed the cover onto the opened out box, drew around the outside & inside the bolt holes with a pencil.
I cut around the outside with scissors, then I used a small socket with a hammer & cut the holes out on my vice for the bolt holes

Then I used the old gasket for the internal dimension of my new gasket.

Perfect :thumb2

All fitted back together with gasket sealant for added seal & torqued up

I waited for the sealant to skin before adding the new oil.

What oil did you use Pete and how much was it? Could do with changing both ours really too.

LOL........real 'old school'.......cereal boxes.......love it...:thumb2

I kept most of my motorbikes running using that as gasket material.....:clap

That looks proper minging, does it drive any different?

It drives just the same.
Update to price...… £5.99 for a litre from local MF.

I removed around 1.6 litres & mine was dripping from the fill plug when I undid it so you'll need 2 litres obviously.

I work on the principal that it's not greatly stressed so why spend money on a gasket that my motor factors probably won't stock & it'll be a genuine Nissan part from the dealer.
I've eaten the cereal & so it's cost me zero :D

I've even used cork floor tiles for gaskets before :lol

Mine came out almost exactly te same.
Think it has done around 90.000 miles and the diff was making some noise drive backwards. With the new oil the noise is gone and on wet road the back has a little more grip before going sideways

It is possible :D
Just need a slippery surface.

On the route from work there is one very tight corner and always some oil on the road there so when I'm not careful there the backend just goes sideways.
At least...when we had a good rain shower.
The best option is snow or dirt.
