i've got a 1998 terrano II and the central locking is mad. the fob has never worked but that's ok. we used to be able to lock and unlock just with the key. now, we can only unlock the drivers door, then turn the ignition on (with high pitch buzz) then manually unlock the front passenger door. this sometimes opens all doors. when in, suddenly all doors will lock themselves...then unlock themselves...then lock again. it's driving us crazy. can anyone help? nick.

Sounds like the same buzz you get when you've had the battery disconnected.
Personally I would change the batteries in both fobs (if you have two) and then follow the workshop in the downloads regarding reprogramming the fobs and take it from there. I think the NATS has got it's under wear in a twist and this may well sort it out.

thanks for coming back jim. the remote fob has never worked, we've always used the key in the drivers door to operate the central locking. it's just recently that the central locking has started playing up, ie. not working with the key in the lock. my biggest worry is that we accidently close the door with the engine running and it decides to lock all the doors.

really need some ideas as to what it may be, loose connection, lock timer, no idea at this stage.

Hello Nickchalmers and welcome to our club.

Not sure on this one only that the central locking module (If that’s the correct word) Is in the drivers door below the key hole.

If your worried about it locking when you don’t want it too, Can you not remove the fuse on the central locking until you sort it out.

Seems a shame not to get the key fobs working when they are there, As Jimsterrano said, new batteries and a reset sounds a good move.

Two things you can have a look at, in the drivers side footwell cover, the time contol unit is bolted to the wall,(big black box with 2 plugs) as you look at it take out the bottom plug, this will make all the doors unlock if not then the unit could be on it's way out.

If you take the drivers side door panel offthere should be a micro switch which is clipped onto the end of the lock barrel, on ours this had fallen of and keeped locking unlocking the doors.

Hope this helps, Paul.

hi mav, thanks for the reply will look at it. when we bought the terrano the fobs never worked and the seller said it was just a reprogram thing. took to nissan to check the alarm. £300 later and it still never worked. so we gave up on the fobs. then about a year later the alarm just kept sounding off in the middle of the night. asked nissan if the alarm could be diabled. they said it would take 2 hours at about £140. in the end i located it, took the wires off and it's fine....in 25 mins! don't trust dealers now. thanks for the tip.

hi paul, thanks for this tip too. will have a look at both areas. it does appear to be an electrical thing so will check all plugs as suggested.

cheers to both of you. nick.

It's a shame the alarm is disconnected as the fob programming is a doddle. If you have a slight leak from things like roof rails that weep drops of water into the ultra sonic sensor on the b posts it can cause your alarm to keep going off. It's worth checking the lock sensor in the drivers door as it makes sense getting banged about when the door is slammed shut. I'm sure you'll get it sorted.

Hi we have a 1996 Maverick which doesnt have a fob, but like yours used to relock itself and the drivers door lock was very sensitive as well as the key in the drivers door used to open two doors and boot and then if you slammed the door would lock again.
Took drivers door trim off couldnt see anything wrong, however traced fault to adjustment from middle of compenstaor rods by slackening off 10mm bolt and moving back up door panel a little.
Now works fine -check if your drivers door handle lock is very sensitive - the slightest movement back with ours would lock all doors ? Sure sign it needs adjusting.
Good luck Steve
