I find many of the questions we are asked in everyday life offencive and unnecessary, for example, at the dentist I am asked my ethic group every time I go :nenau and the choices on the form are silly and inadequate.

and as you say sexuality is private, and subjective. I have a friend, a woman who prefers the company of women, (who is also a Dr of sociology) who came up with an interesting way to look at sexuality - there is no such thin as a homosexual or heterosexual person, there are simply sexual experiences, people should not be labelled by their choices. I agree with this - each person and relationship is unique.

I dont think ive ever done a census questionairre...at least I cant remember doing on. But anyway, in response to Ricks comments, id say those types of questions are irrelevent, invasive and personal.

I think the question about sexuality will be optional as are the ethnicity questions.

When I did the last census I just made up loads of answers as they can hardly check up on you as its confidential !

It might be compulsory to return the form but the manner of the response is down to you so how can they validate the replies ?

If I say I am a Naxolite or a Zorastrian how are they going to check this is my political or religious belief ?

the last council questionaire about gauging there clientel got filled in as agy and lesbian muslim,gypsy i didnt want any of there favorite groups to feel left out!
im not on voters reg either, you could of course fill forms in as michael rodent or scot f'alltodowithu
i think jedi is now a recognised religion unsure about cling ons id have to check!

We always put the most obscure answers we can think of.
I seem to remember last time we were all Jedi clerics , my job was "The Book" , as in the hitch hickers guide to the galaxy Peter Jones (that's me):lol

99% people will diligantly fill them in,my mom an dad used to! theere was talk of doing away with it as we all apear on tonnes databases its pointless and can be done cheeper by cross referencing them.

so when is census, normally 1st year of decade, well supposed second,
1991, 2001, 2011. not seen any blurb about it yet.

I was an anumerator on the 91, good fun for a nosey git like me....
2001 didnt bother as was working more than full time.

here were census people at Appleby last year, banging on about the importance of it all. I was even stopped at a census point in Staffordshire last may! :nenau

I dont intend filling the census in. Cant see the value in it tbh.

We had a form round at work a bit back. Asked our nationality/ethnic b gnd via tick boxes.

Under the "white" options it had Welsh, Scottish , British and Other.

I complained it didnt have English on it. Was told to wind my neck in The rest of the shift took an interest and loads more complaints went in as well as most ticking "white other" really skewed their results :thumb2

Small victory but a god un.

or maybe english was left off deliberately and some expert decided to add the option "other" to make the figures suit them ... you could have played into there hands .

should have refused to complete until your legally recognised nationality/option was included on the form .

The old git collecting them kept stalking me and waiting for me when i got home from work! i used to have to drive straight past and park round the corner and sneek in the back!
