Hello boys, nice to see this thread still bumbling along! :thumbs
Just got back from 4x4 response course which was fun, I was the only Jap in a field of 30 Landies  Nay matter, I did the driving bit in 2 wheel drive while Discos were getting stuck all over the place:lol
Anyway, my truck got scrutinised as it's required to be legal etc for responding, and it flew through with no probs.:thumbs
I specifically asked about the wide wheel thing and I was pointed to several others there with similar "bulges":augie Anyway the "Legalities" of this are clear, it's the TREAD that needs covering per law, BUT, makes no odds if plod wants he'll do me for dangerous condition. Simples.
So I've taken some more pics of the truck today while parked on the level and will send them to plod , as they show clearly the tread is covered. That way I can argue the "dangerous condition" bit with the judge:sly
The pics will also prominently show the 4x4 response stickers too:D

tbh if this is the current build http://s667.photobucket.com/albums/vv36/daudwpsyn/?action=view&current=mav.jpg theres very few cops (who dare stop motor vehicles) wouldnt stop it to have a look.

:lol:lol:lol:lol:lol

oh ha very ha! :D

But re what Adz said, surely VOSA would have no reason to be inspecting a private car unless it had been involved in an accident - and I presume when you say traffic officer you mean 'any policeman' and aren't referring to those traffic officer civilians in their flash 4x4s - cos they can't touch you?

Well I wont be, the insurance co. will I hope:sly I've paid them for legal cover I'm sure, so as they agreed my wheels(and have pics of them) they can defend me:D

Traffic = Traffic Copper ;)

Dont know how different areas operate but here in shit rat race Essex & London you don't argue with Traffic Cops or VORSA who will happily pull a LGV to a scooter.!

Double check, they may not. Most standard policies cover dispute only connected with claims and not road worthiness or offences

Sorry but Adz advice was complete bollocks. Vosa can access any part of a vehicle they require to in order to carry out an examination, I'm not aware of any limitations on vehicle types for them . They cant and wont search for criminal evidence.

Any cop can search any vehicle if they have a suspicion of it being connected to ANY offence requiring a search......think about it ;)

I know VORSA cant search & they don't,I'm talking about checking the vehicle over.! Which they will with a fine tooth comb if you piss em off as will the Traffic Cops...

Youre still on the wrong tack. Theres loads of non traffic cops who will cheerfully give a vehicle a very thorough going over. Fine tooth comb if you like. Think about it logically, theres ex mechanics, ex techies and keen diy mechanics working as non specialist cops :augie

Absolutely no problem spotting offences, some quite complex ones too.

Where youre getting mixed up is with specialised roles .

Generally the traffic cops have qualified as "expert witness's" that means their evidence is qualified fact and not just informed opinion.

Example perhaps being spotting one rusty brake disc on a four disc sports car, suggest to the examining non specialist cop cop that its not working properly. Get the people out who can provide the expert evidence ie traffic or nowadays vosa and bingo offence detected and corroborated.

If it is as simple the example it may not proceed any further other than fix it. But if theres more the full exam will proceed and there's no point in locking the doors and quoting internet barrack room law.

(ps it was a BMW and there was loads more on it and in it :naughty a very dangerous car )

If only i could of said something along those lines 3 hours ago :doh :lol

I'll pm ya next time for you to go over, pm it bk & I'll b sorted :lol :augie

At least you could see what i was trying to say but just couldn't put it down :doh

:thumbs :clap

Adz, as Daved says above, VOSAs brief is for commercial transport - they only get involved in private vehicles when they are asked to carry out accident investigation, so they would never be stopping you in a private car or motorcycle on a public highway in the way they can a commercial....

I got coaught up in a vosa commercial spot check once and the police escorted me to a weigh bridge they had hired, and then vosa gave the transit van a mini MOT, checking tyre load ratings everything nothing left to chance, the DHSS were there too checking for benefit cheats, the trading standards, police checking outstanding warrants the flipping lot! I got targeted as my van looked overloaded, which to be fair it was just a little bit!

but not enough to get into troubel and everything else was OK, but they ahd caught a fair few people for a lot of things!

Just imagine some poor bugger pulled for a brake light bulb and all there guilty secrets coming out of the closet :doh
