Update

Well I've been on the Gov site and VOSA and this n that and the upshot is , as eluded to earlier, that the tread must be covered and the bulge of the tyre wall is ok to protrude. BUT as we all know, Plod has the fail safe top trump card, namely, "Dangerous Parts/condition". That said though it'll be a debate in court. I spent some time on a Police forum last night and it's a grey area anyway in fact land but comes down to the copper's feel for the case. OR in my case "I'll get you sonny"
Hey ho I'll be adding on some piddly skinny plastic to cover my bulge now;)
Oh and the points thing doesnt work like that Colin, I've checked:thumbs

Oh Please, please, please can I have a call from plod for help? Just once, and I'd piss myself on the phone :D
"I have a dream"

So you wont be playing in 4x4 assistance mode then :lol:lol

Dont tarr all with the same brush.

Its all been said on here . I cant remember the the exact regs off the top of my head but effectively it should all be within the arch/body work (barr some very small differences) and even if its outside dangerous vehicle comes in. Thats very easy to argue by saying if you brushed a bike or pedestrian as you passed them would any moving parts (other than the whole car :augie) hit them , cause further injury or drag them in, rotating wheels "countersunk" probably no, wheels proud possibly yes. Its all about hazard and risk reduction.

Colleague now retired saw a motorcylist get dragged under and ran over by the unprotected rear wheels of an ultra heavy HGV low loader. Not nice. It happens. Stuff of nightmares.

Same applies to front mounted bull bars, spot lamps and spot lamp brackets. Manufacturers spend thousands making a car pedestrian friendly then we spend hundreds sticking bits of hard sharp metal on the front :naughty

i believe there are some very good coppers out there . trouble is there are some very nasty ones too.

but i guess sometimes even the nasty ones are useful.
i really have been quite lucky , as i have tended to attract the attention of the nicer more reasonable ones.

unlike pete who def seems to have upset one particular copper , who now seems to be out to get him , in some sort of cat and mouse game.

so i recon its a case of play by his rules or he will find something eventually.and itll cost him in the end they will either squash the truck or have his licence .

another thought is if something does happen like daved describes , and there is an accident.... could you sleep knowing the wheels were sticking out . maybe things might have not been so bad if they were inside the arch .

i guess thats the point i got to on my mav the wheels stuck out an inch but tread was almost covered...... but you could see it could have been safer... i know i couldnt live with any bad accidents . so i decided to take it off the road till it was done right. and was the safest it could be.

i know my driving was slow and nervy , due to the truck driving like a box of bits thrown together. cornering was shit as was stopping and steering.

it kills me not having it on the road , and enjoying it ..... but its going to be built right and to the best i can afford. and as safe as is needed . so if i crash i know ill be able to live with the fact i knew it was safe

another thought.... the pain in the arse copper pete picked up ... well who knows he might have had to pick up the pieces of someone's kid one night and had to explain to there parents they wont be returning home .
he could be going to work every day .... living the nightmares that daved describes.....

just cover the wheels up . you can have my arches if it helps

clever that. so they are looking for the blue dye. and dipping everyone's tanks to find out who is using this blue dye....

be interesting to see how many blue dyes they have given out , and how many tanks they are dipping to find the criminals....
what exactly are the statistics

i wonder what the actual policing time is used to find the odd diesel thief dumb enough to use blue diesel .

looks like a job to look into .

its another one of those things like sending helicopter out to catch some kid on his moto x bike in the mountain . only to let him off when they catch them .....

the law is such an arse . little wonder people have had enough

me included .

so come on daved your the man in the know , bet you could find out what the statistics are .:bow

Havent a clue what the stats are, I always work on the adage that there two ways to mislead someone, either lie to them or use stats :D

As far as the blue goes you would be gobsmacked how some people will use it without a bat of the eyelid (but see below) .

Bit of a rock and a hard place really. Stop everyone and piss them off or dont stop anyone and the whole things a waste of time.

Amongst other things I get involved in stopping vehicles carrying dangerous goods. Everything from radioactives to the stuff that makes your trainers ;) When we have Customs with us and they dip just about everything youd be stunned how many people are not on duty paid fuel :doh and the bullshit they come out with :naughty:lol

You takes your chance you pays the price :thumbs

The way the different police depts work though is that under the National Intelligence Model various things are identified as problems (I'm not trendy enough to call them "issues"). Theres a standard way everything is processed and the end product is various cops in various areas are tasked at certain times to carry out certain jobs. If theres been a lot of diesel thefts sending out the message that you will probably be getting your tank dipped in the near future and locked up if youve got sus diesel in it will stop a lot of people buying the blue (or red) . therefore the criminals mass market is killed off and the thefts are a waste of effort. No decent profit to reward their risk.

If someone is nicked using it, bonus, but also a possible intelligence source to find the original thief/supplier. Its a well proven system, stats aside , based on locking the right people up.

I reckon the cop who keeps stopping makeitfit is actually cultivating him as a grass so they can sort all these naughty 4x4 ers sorted ;):augie

so whats the answer for pete then .... squeaky clean for a while

or regester it to someone else . with a new plate and all . basicly loose the truck and anything identifying him to it.

lets say its mine and i insure it . he could drive it on his Volkswagen golf insurance .... anonymously.

makeitfit is missing if you like .

itll get laptop off his back wont it

this blue dye can be bought on e-bay, so i dont know how that will work then:nenau

interesting about the bulge part, as til recently and for about 25 years
prior to that First South Yorkshire buses and their predecessors Mainline
and before that South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive had a
fleet of upto 400 Dennis Dominator double deckers that bulged like good
'uns so either their square bodies were too narrow or the axles or offsets
to wide/great.

And tread or not even the bulge could throw plenty of muck up the body
sides. Frankly as originally part of a council run operation with their own
testing facilities I suspect they could do what ever they liked, frankly still
do...

The bottom line is this...

Once ya cars marked you either :-

1.Sell it > Cant due to time & cash already spent on it
icon13.gif

2.Register in somebody else's name > To late & that could open a hole different tin or worms :nenau
3.Make sure the 4B is 101% Road Legal > Easiest & safest option & the look on there face when theres nout wrong with it. :thumbs

Also, once you know its all hunky dory,if there NOT traffic or VORSA then as they look round your car, do the same to theres & if they want to look inside, lock & tell em to get a warrant as with no listing of drug or violence offenses then theres no need for a search :augie :thumbs

I got stopped by a young WPC because of my prominent bulge. She took down my particulars and requested a DNA sample....:augie

you wished paul, did she have magnifying glass, lol :lol

And anyone following this bizzare advice , could find themselves playing a whole new party game :thumb2

I wouldnt let anyone called Vorsa near my car, sounds like someone who's just left the cast of star trek the 25th generation.

As far as believing only Vorsa and his mate Traffic can search a vehicle ;) give your head a shake :lol:thumb2

Hello boys, nice to see this thread still bumbling along! :thumbs
Just got back from 4x4 response course which was fun, I was the only Jap in a field of 30 Landies  Nay matter, I did the driving bit in 2 wheel drive while Discos were getting stuck all over the place:lol
Anyway, my truck got scrutinised as it's required to be legal etc for responding, and it flew through with no probs.:thumbs
I specifically asked about the wide wheel thing and I was pointed to several others there with similar "bulges":augie Anyway the "Legalities" of this are clear, it's the TREAD that needs covering per law, BUT, makes no odds if plod wants he'll do me for dangerous condition. Simples.
So I've taken some more pics of the truck today while parked on the level and will send them to plod , as they show clearly the tread is covered. That way I can argue the "dangerous condition" bit with the judge:sly
The pics will also prominently show the 4x4 response stickers too:D

O god
Pete takes on the Welsh Plod :doh :clap :lol :lol :lol
