Can't Seperate Drivers Steering Wheel Airbag from Wheel

need electrical power to detonate the airbag !

I'm worried I'll damage it and/or detonate the air bag

As long as the battery is disconnected and the capacitor has discharged no danger of the air bag going off. The explosive charge needs the detonator to fire the airbag !
