Sure sounds like auto hubs got a break ring broken or gummed up springs:augieGet them sorted boy, it's probably only one side, but bound to be the second one you check:lol
Once sorted, you'll be able to take the piss out of the discos no problem:D
Good luck:cool:

Thanks for everyones advice. Been out like stated, only planned on hour at most but helped a stranded old bloke and gave him a tow home. Poor bloke about crapped himself when i pulled up and got out.
Tried advice of going backwards and forwards and changing between high and low. Not too sure if that worked or not. Managed to tow a fiesta (yes FORD, more shit for your money) and seemed ok even through side streets in fresh few inches of snow. Not sure if 4 wheel drive worked or not. Did seem slightly different in feel to driving though and I'm sure the engine sounded different (maybe my imagination, not sure) and icon was on on the dash.

knew carrying jump leads and tow rope in back would come in handy some day and I'm a great believer in Karma so what goes around, comes around.
Thanks again guys for all your advice, its very much appreciated.:thumbs

befor you get all excited lol

try turning each drive shaft see if the lockers engage then you have a definate yes or no

4WD Problems

I had the same problem when I first got my Terrano - stuck in a muddy field with nothing going anywhere.
Although yours does sound like a hub problem, try one litle thing first: make sure the transfer-stick is ALL the way back! It fels like it's 'in' when it really needs another gentle inch (know the feeling?), so it's actually in neutral - that's why yours sounds like a hub problem.
Thankfully, there was no-one there to see me, and I never did it again - but I had to assist someone else who did exactly the same just a few weeks ago.

don't auto's take a revloution of the wheels to engage? So if your back wheels were still spinning and it wasn't moving they may just not have engaged!

Just refresh my memory - when did Nissan do away with the auto locking hubs on the 2.7 T2 ?

I've had a look at my hubs and no "automatic" is stamped into them???

Never had them apart so I cant say if they are auto or fixed.

a good quick way to free up all the old gunge in your auto hubs it to take them off and put a dollope of engine opil in the bottom then run them for a while before servicing them properly!

If you take a decent close up of the internals and brake rings, we weill be able to tell you if they look ok :thumb2

Mine has fixed hubs, the slection process for 4wd is different and no need to reverse when changin back to 2wd, the instructions on the back of the sun visor should have the appropriate instructons for the hubs fitted.

I did have a brand new - still in sealed bags - set of springs for auto hubs, i offered them on here and had no takers, if i can find them (and it's a big if!) I will offer them again, free to anyone in need.

OOOH me please I always need spares just incase I were to embarass my self near a disco :lol
How much for them if you find them?:thumbs
