Cab/night heater

Anyone know a good source for a cab/night heater,either diesel or electric. Thinking of maybe fitting one to the T2 in case I want to sleep in the truck during the cold winter:augie Might be an excuse for a little early morning hunting,if I could stay warm enough. Something similar to those used in trucks would be ideal but must be cheap. Thanks.

do a google search for WEBASTO, they are what was fitted to my truck,turn on set control and forget, warm as toast, dont know what the drain on the battery would be, or the amount of diesel used but they do one thats suitable for motorhomes so maybe thats the way to go, as the truck ones are 24 volt but have a google for them, even ebay I would say. good luck

On the boat we have a gas warm air heating system with thermostat etc, 1.6KW output, uses 1amp from battery, but you will need Propane gas.
These are often fitted to VW camper/ dormobiles, but not cheap approx £700
You will be better off with diesel powered unit with balanced flue.

You could use red diesel in a seperate tank if you wish.
When looking for heaters, look in the boats section as well.

Eberspecher or Webasto over a grand each new but I have seen them advertised used for £500. but be wary parts are mega expensive glow pin for example for the 12v Eber over £45 and that was 4 years ago, Rick

eber and webas both used at firm i work for , when they go wrong it can make your nose bleed!!!! often end up sending away for repair=400 to 500quid a time, and your totaly knacked without a diagnostic tool which are very hard to get hold of i believe

These run on butane,.. they a good (I have one on my boat)....

I cant be of much help other than saying that truck heaters work off the diesel tank & on average use about a pint over 12 hours.

Be very careful that you do not just buy the heater without the control gear that goes with it they have to match, and do not forget these units have to go outside of the cabin with a duct for the hot air to the inside, Rick

The trouble is a butane heater will not work below 0c if the bottle is kept outside, easiest, cheapest and safest way is a good sleeping bag, and then a small stove to make a cuppa in the morning will heat the truck as it boils the water, regards bri...

sounds like for occasional use leaving engine running would be cheaper,

perhaps with a hand throttle to just lift thre revs slightly.

my troll has a heat button lifts revs to about 1200 clever too as if select
a gear it switches off until lever in neutral again.

If you do go for the hot air, with the balanced flue, think where the main unit will go, it is bigger than a shoe box and will require a pipe to the outside for inlet and a pipe for the exhaust which clearly gets hot. There will also be some soot deposites around the flue over time.
Re Gas , I am not sure what signage you have to put on vehicles that carry gas bottles?

The advantage of these heaters is that they do not add to the condensation, but I suggest that you fit a Carbon Monoxide detector, incase there is an unknown leak or the exhaust fumes get back into the cab.

Your truck will end up with condensation any way, so you may need to ensure you have ventilation protected from the weather.

You could buy a small tent and get one of those small portable gas heaters, BUT DO NOT USE THEM IN A CONFINED SPACE, or in the truck.

Now for an upgrade, you may wish to fit a chemical loo and a hot water shower, a fridge, electric hook up.
You could buy a caravan and paint it in camoflage paint.:lol:lol

The Propex heater was the only way I could get the wife to use the boat out of season, although this summer it has been used more than the fridge.:doh
