After dropping the family off i noticed a knocking noise after coming off the car park. The car park was reasonablly bumpy for a car park but nothing major.
The knocking seems to be coming from the rear tyre on the passenger side.
At first i thought i had a large stone trapped in the tyre - but could not find anything.
I drove home - the noise tends to happen more on straight and when i turn right.
I took it to a tyre shop just to double check - they told me it's not the tyre but something wrong with the driveshaft.
:(
I got a second opinion over the phone from a garage and they said it could be a loose wheel from the sounds of it.
I have had a replacement wheel fitted but that was about 2 months ago.

- My question are - has anybody experienced this before and if it is the driveshaft thats knackered what price could i be looking at ???

I've got it booked in the garage for Wednesday so they can have a look - if it's too much my Maverick will have to go :(

Thanks for you time!!!

well if the tyre shop has looked we assume you can discount loose wheel....could be the bearing - you'd need to jack it and check for movement by trying to wobble the wheel top/bottom, left/right etc..

I had one go very suddenly at relatively low mileage on my last T2 - but the noiue was a mix of rattle, clatter and graunching...it broke up completely though. But I was nowhere near a decent Nissan garage and in a rush so had it towed to a L*nd R*v*r garage that stiffed me about £800 for a new half shaft and two bearings plus fitting, probably partly due to Nissan spares pricing....so either try it yourself (after checking the manual) or make sure you take it somewhere that knows what its doing - and get a firm quote...and in the current market, as I learnt from eboy, challenge their price and try to get it knocked down. He had a £900 clutch quote reduced to £600 next by playing hard to get (ended up doing it himself though)....always worth a try.

I'm sorry but I can't understand a rough car park taking out anything major on one of our motors. What about rear anti roll bar link? get your garage to show you what is wrong if they start wanting lots of money from you.

good point, could easily be an ARB bush gone or link busted/rusted....I was surprised how bad my fronts were when I changed them and its only 6-odd years old...

Just had another thought, how about the jack being loose? worth opening the hatch and just giving it a tighten to make sure it's in there nice n tight.

many thanks for your replies.

the tyre shop only rolled the maverick back and forth, judged it wasn't a stone or nail, then looked underneath and said the driveshaft looked fecked.
i couldn't see anything but i'm no expert.

i've been told since that if it is a driveshaft that would be a more gradual bump over time getting worse, not like this - full on from no where!

i hope the garage can give me some good news !!!

ok well if you can take some pics of the undeside 10 or 20 from diferent angles . put them on photobucket.com and post a link to it , then maybe we might see something is amiss . thats possibly one way

i know this worked for lacroupade

if not you need to have a good wiggle about under there

the sound wasn't from the back as i thought
both front tyres were ready for coming off!
i don't know if someone has tried to have them off or what.
i've had the maverick for just over 2000 miles so i don't think it was from the last service.

i've learn't two things from this - never believe the first thing your told and always check your nuts

Check my nuts first thing every morning, and frequently during the day. Can't be too careful.

Not much on here tonight so I think I'll go check my nuts too:naughty
