Inner axle seal has gone. Jack up the wheel and check for movement in the swivel bearings as that sometimes causes the seals to go but they do sometimes go on their own.

If there's movement in the bearings they'll need replaced as well otherwise you can by the inner seal on its own £4 http://www.japanese4x4parts.co.uk/n...2000---front-drive-shaft-oil-seal-10108-p.asp

There are quick ways to get at the seal without touching the hub (remove swivel bearings and remove the swivel hub and drive shaft in one go) but if a garage doesn't know what they're doing they might dismantle the hub as well not realising you don't have to.

Pitting on the swivel doesn't affect the oil seal as the swivel housing on the Trols isn't meant to hold oil. When the seal goes it starts leaking diff oil into the swivel which then leaks out past the scraper seals on the swivel (they just keep mud etc out of the swivel and away from the cv). If you unscrew the lowest bolt on the bottom swivel bearing you'll get a stream of diff oil leaking out. Your cv will need regreased as all that oil washes away the grease.

Thanks guys :) I think I may get the bearings done at the same time - and possibly the lift kit.. Just wondering how far I can travel on an empty diff before it all goes pete tong?

If you're not using 4wd and your hubs are unlocked then doesn't matter as driveshafts and diff won't be turning bud :thumb2

If you check the oil level though it's probably still got a fair amount in it.

Barrbeast, you are just making me happier and happier!

I'm going to sell my BMW and then go shopping for trol parts. I'll get all the more expensive bits done in a oner.. Lift kit, bumper/winch mount, winch. Possibly the snorkel, and I'll have the front wheel bearings, disks and pads done as well, and possibly the anti roll bar bushes.

Anything else I could do while I'm at it?

You fitted an oil catch can yet?

Look at fitting a snorkel sooner rather than later, your engine will love you as it'll be getting cleaner air.

I think I'll leave the Oil Catch Can and a second battery till later, but yes the snorkel will hopefully be going on along with the above repairs/mods.

I think the engine bay will be getting the next bunch of mods - bigger intercooler, boost controller and associated gauges catch can, secondary battery.

I'll continue doing wee bits to the interior - taking the back back seats out I have an idea about cheap storage racks using bits of old dog cages (I don't - will never - put my hounds in cages, but these cages seem to have the right gauge wire for what I want to do) where the fold up seats go. Basically all the stuff I can do for little to no money while I save up for engine bits!

I'm still wondering about the interior electrical layout and where I want to bung an inverter and switches/sockets etc.

But last of all it'll get a zany paint job, and I aint telling anyone what I have planned for that!

I used KS International for my swivel bearing kit, inc new bearings and needle bearings, wiper blades, inner seals etc.. £100
Whoever does the job, keep the shims for the kingpin bearings, they are gold dust. With a good clean-up they are good to go again!
Not a big job to do yourself either.:thumbs

I'll have an automotive technician (didn't it used to be mechanic?) do it for me. I'm good with PC's and drones etc. but I'm a spanner with a spanner! I'm capable of changing a wheel, or repairing a puncture, but I have very little car repair experience and I'd rather not have the thing fall apart afterwards. I'll tell the bloke to bung the useful used bits in a bag for me though.

This one?

And this is both ends of the axle?

Head unit is still going strong - I now have two 32GB SD cards in it and have loaded one with music and a few TV series (incase I get a boring site guard job with no time to prepare) and the other is where I have installed all the Apps I usually use. This frees up the space in the head unit for the usual OS clutter. Apart from the loooooonnnngg start up time, I'm really happy with it.

I occasionally park up next to the Wifi room at work and download any updates or Apps etc.

I installed VLC player and can now watch movies on the move (not something I do, but would be handy if I ever bung in some more monitors in the back!)

On my trip to Scotland and back the USB leads charged up my phone with no problems, and bluetooth (I listen to audiobooks) worked non stop with zero breaks (something that happened with a Sony unit I had a few years ago.)

I just need a flat fascia thingy so I can bung the stereo back about an inch or so, it sticks out like a spare thingy at a wassaname at the moment.

Cheers for the review Brian. Any chance of a photo with the screen away. Also just how long does it take from switch on to useable:thumbs

Nope.

But I am uploading a video to YouTube of it in action, it'll be ready in about 10 minutes. ;)

Thanks Brian. That's about 30 seconds. What happens when you then start the engine. It doesn't go through it again does it?
