I wish I had the money for some, but Browns tax collectors in blue had all my tyre money:doh
So just got some from fleabay:D
Insa track specials mmm 265/75/16s which is about 31 1/2 " and proper GRR:sly

I bought those split rims from Colin and I've fallen in love, so planning to get them refurbed and stick Kumhos on....

i beleive fronty rims have the same offset as standard t2 mav wheels.
i can check tomorrow if you like.

test run was interesting. for a quick fix it drives good in 2wd. 4wd is another matter...
i selected 4wd on the gravel road. and tried to drive up this gravel lane the truck was rocking around like a boat, as it was what seemed like the usual problem switching between wheels and not really knowing what it wants to do pulling from side to side.

so with tomorrow in mind i thought well it drives in 2wd ok so lets see what it will do in 4wd in the mud or tricky stuff .
i tried a short 50 degree mud hill one i knew id get stuck on but could roll off ok
well its definatelly got drive to the drive shafts but it is having trouble engaging the auto hubs
looking out the windows with the truck just wheel spinning you can see its not engaging
it did eventually with lots of clunking and banging and from then on it was driving almost normal 4wd engage so i drove it home making sure not to reverse yes i kept it in 4wd too slowly

so it should still be engaged.
i recon its either the hubs mechanism sticking or the rings are worn out and not grabbing each other enough to engage the hubs

obviously its still a bit loose on the bushes as they are all dead i think or at best quite worn. but its driving ok good enough for tomorrow id say

so as its engaged now if i remove the rings it should stay engaged. but how long can i drive it with the hubs engaged ? i can still do 2wd but the drive shafts will still be spinning due to the hubs being locked in

Mk4s are like that anyway as tey don't have freewheeling hubs so you can drive it round like that as long as you want, provided you diff oil is ok - if its not you could do the diff bearings like I did the other week but my diff had been full of water.

i will change front diff oil first thing in the morning then remove the rings

see how i get on

its only to keep me on the road i need to change the bushes next week when i order from milners

thanks terra you've been really helpfull

Hey extreme I've got 2 spare auto hubs I'll bring along tomorrow too.
Just incase:augie
Oh yeh , if the fronty wheels fit I'll trying them out too

i know.... those maxxis on ebay are better

are you watchin them or do you want a link

Sorry to here that your problems have returned Mate. If I were you, I'd save up my beer tokens and invest in a set of manual hubs. No more worrying about "are they / aren't they" engaged.

Have fun tomorrow, and don't forget the PICS PICS PICS !
