will do the auto 's tomorrow without break rings so at least i will eliminate them from the equasion

any other suggestions ???

Excuse my ignorance but how will it work in 4wd whne the rings are removed? Surely it will just be 2wd then and not show the problem will it?

Jim

The rings only engage and disengage the hubs, once they are engaged the rings don't do anything until they come to disengage.

Have you checked your bushes? In particular the lower wisbone rear/compression strut bush, if this is knackered the wheel will push back in 2wd but may pull itself forward in 4wd.

I agree with the above about hubs, if one were to dissengage you would just be in 2wd as that shaft would just spin an dno power would go to the other wheel. try it with the rings out to be sure for yourself but IMHO its down to steering or bushes - you still haven't answere about what you've replaced, can't help with no info.

4 new track rod ends
new steeting idler
new cross bar for steering

so steering its new from power steering pump to the wheels

Check bushes then.

Also are you running wheel spacers and extra wide rims? - try using a standardish width track set of wheels - any priblem will be made far worse by the wide track.

ok after re setting the the camber the other day.... and it was perfect on both fronts.
after playing the passenger side wheel has developed a fault.

its now leaning in (camber) about an inch at the top. so the top is in the bottom is out

all of my spacers are correct and still in place. id say the bushes on the camber adjustment area are worn possibly

this is a breif inspection as we are getting intermitant showers now so im popping in and out

bare with me please

i got sun so out again, back in ten probably

ok well the bushes are dead. its un drivable as its smashing its own steering components together. they still look serviceable but cant drive until its fixed cos i cant buy all the new steering parts again.

im going to try a temp repair pinching parts from my spare truck until i can get new parts from milners.

i still trying for tomorrow team wales but its going to be a lot of work out in the rain to get there

you can ring me on 07772655216 for info on team wales meet tomorrow
new number guys i changed networks to orange

write it down..... ill delete the number tonight ok

Were you using rubber or nylon bushes ?

well glad you know what it is now Colin, but given those dirty great boulders we were driving over yesterday, is it worth buying new standard components? Bodge it for now and get your a** out tomorrow!

I mean its worth understanding if whatevers busted just gave out under the strain, or got clobbered by something - I know when we went up that mental hill climb you originated, the passenger side took a big belt underneath about hafway up the hill - probably the second time I hit my head if you recall???!!! LOL...so it could be that a bit of shielding might be a better long term bet than keep replacing....

Know what you mean about this rain; Dorne's got me chopping wood while she's out having her nails done and I have to keep diving in for a brew out of the showers! LOL

is it worth buying new standard components?

I put poly bushes on my compression rods and I'm not happy about the way they fit - going to go back to rubber whenI get chance. Got the poly ones form Milners but whilst they are better than the worn rubber ones they just aren't right. Many people with Landies fit std rubber bushes as whilst in theory they don't last as long as poly in practice they do as they are more compliant and allow more flex. The poly ones run out of give cos they are harder and then start to destroy themselves.

And while I don't pretend to be a mechanic, having driven my truck for a week without the front ARB while waiting for my new droplinks, it was clear to me that not having them on was letting/making the rest of the suspension work overtime on rough roads - all the stresses that the ARB, links and bushes would have been absorbing were having to dissapate elsewhere in the suspension....add to that a 3" suspension lift and wide tyres, then take it for a drive over the nearest boulderfield (and I have to say it did it EXTREMEly well!) and I guess its gonna happen...

You did say çlose to the edge'didn't you Col!

Would this be the tracks you took me to a couple of months back?:augie
If it is TAKE IT EASY
Top place mind and I was airbourne over some of those boulders!:D

Anyway do you happen to know if Frontera wheels will fit the Mav.
Not measured yet but the fronty seems to have a bigger offset:nenau

Oh if the landy boys do turn up I have a secret weapon "Thunderbird2"
He can lead them off to some more leary bits :thumbs
the change channels on cb:naughty

frontera wheels fit... i got 3 sets of frontera rims here

quite nice too

Thats good cause the ones I just picked up are off a fronty:thumbs
Its just the offset I was wondering about, to be sure it doesnt clash with the front steering gubbins and that:augie
How goes the test run?
