This is what I have used in the past, it's quite runny and you sort of paste it on. It's about £2 more expensive than all the JB Weld stuff they had though.

Thanks for that TD.

Runny stuff that will set might just do the job with compression fittings. The stuff I've got from plumbing use is Fernox LS-X, which is great for general use but I'm not sure about its resistance to aircon refrigerant and oil.

The hole in my air con pipes is about a foot long so I think I might be clutching at straws with that stuff:lol

Rick I guess these pipes are on the low pressure side?

Easy to tell, smaller pipe is High pressure, larger is low, hi and low stationary are the same, when running the low is about 20 psi gauge and hi can reach 300, also it has high expansion and contraction movement due to the temperature differences and the fact that Ali has a fairly high coefficient of expansion, Rick

My high pressure side exploded while having a re-gas. A corroded pipe!
Green slime everywhere!
The garage had to go into lockdown as the spillage kit got deployed.
The pressure is immense.
Hope your repair is on the low Mick...

It's a high pressure pipe. I'm just going to seal it so it's not leaking and I can use the car without the aircon for the time being. I need the T2 on the road because both of our other cars need attention. V70 drumming auxilliary belt needs sorting otherwise it could take out the cam belt if it goes and that puts the engine at risk. Got our Golf Mk5 back from my daughter at the weekend and got a text from my wife yesterday morning, on her way to work the coolant warning light came on. Got her to top it up at work and checked it last night, radiator leaking from top of pressed joint. It needs a new one, not a chance with radweld etc.

It's like buses, nothing for a while then they come in threes :nenau:nenau

What is interesting is that I use compressed air bottles at 300 bar which is 4350psi and I can get an air tight seal with a seated o-ring against a flat surface when screwed up hand tight. Same thing with Dowty seals, they just need to be nipped up lightly with a spanner.

There's a compression connector from the USA called a Splice-Lok that can be used for aircon pipe repair but the cost about £25 each over here. With a bit of thought and the right type of 8mm compression fitting/olive and some well-fitting viton o-rings I reckon I could come up with a cost effective, workable and safe DIY alternative.
