Light stayed on this morning , don't think it's linked to any sensors so thinking it's the handbrake switch that's stuck.

What do you think?

Brian

I had a switch fall out once and give the same problem on another car, easy enough to tell though. The switch relies on being pressed in to keep the light off. So a normally closed switch. Try disconnecting the connector on the rear of the switch.

Also check brake fluid level and vacuum switch, does the brake pedal go down, when you start the engine.

You will have to kill any vacuum first whilst depressing the brake pedal several times with the engine off.
Just a thought..

Brake fluid has dropped a bit since last checked but still just below max. The brakes seem to be working fine.

Mot coming up so better fix it ;O(

brake sensors

have your front pads got wear sensors on them

if they have that would account for warning light and slight loss of fluid level

No sensors , in fact last year had new discs and pads fitted when the one totally disintigrated , drove for a week with no pads on one side ;O(

No warning light came on then.

Just to add , everything is working fine . Even the handbrake with the original shoes which have now done 156k

it is easy to take out the center console and pull the wires off the hand break switch, does it light now? Rick

On my R3mR it was a slight loss in vacuum. Fault initially was light flashing on briefly when braking in stop-start traffic until it was on most of the time. I had no fluid loss and brakes seemed fine. On mine it was the small vacuum hose off a T piece to the low vacuum warning switch in the bulkhead area near the servo/ prdal booster.

Found the fault :O)

Small pin prick hole in the rubber pipe by the rear axle. Can't get one today so a bit of ptfe tape and a jubilee clip and the lights out.

Thanks for the help guys

Hi Mud Life
What rubber pipe are you referring to? Is it a brake fluid line to the rear brakes? How did you discover it was the problem?

Yes rubber pipe to rear brakes that runs over the axle, got under the car and checked all the brake lines and found a wet one ;O)

Got the wife to pump the brakes and could see a small amount of fluid coming out. Tiny hole but obviously enough to effect the pressure.

Will try and source part tomorrow but no time to fix until wednesday but I'm confident with temp repair for now.

are you really saying that a tiny leak on the hose puts the light on, by what sensor could it do that, I suspect it is coincidence, Rick

Coincidence or not Rick , light was on , plugged the hole , light went off and has stayed off.

Brake pedal much firmer now as well.

Topped fluid up before fixing hole so not that so maybe a vacuum warning.
