Has anyone here used caliper repair kits? I have a sticking piston (I think) on the Front, deffo something not releasing properly as the drivers side wheel gets extremely hot. Anyway I am waffling, can't really afford to replace the calipers so was thinking of etting the kits from Brakeparts and having a go myself. Never done brakes before so if anyone has done this and could give me some tips and hints on how to do them it would be great. MOT is due next week so need to get it sorted pretty quickly as no doubt it will fail...

It's probably the sliders not the pistons.
Strip down the sliders and undo them, clean off the worst then use a cordless drill to spin them in and out with some wd40 etc :thumbs

Agree normally sliders unless some a#*@ damages the dirt seal on piston :doh

Being a total novice as far as brakes are concerned, how do you get the sliders out? Is it remove the whole caliper first?

Yep caliper off then you can get to grips with the "slider". Usually in the vice and a long lever carefully inserted  then slowly prise the slider out of the housing. Then undo the slider bar and get to work with the drill :sly:thumbs

Hahaaha and in english? Dont have a vice, got a wet driveway and a set of molegrips......

Anyway I'll give it a go..whats the worst that can happen... :lol

Well if it's goosed then everything to gain :D
The two bolts that hold the caliper on are quite big and have probably been there for ages :augie
You'll probably need some lever action there too.
Drive way is cool, proper men work on their drives :clap
Saves dribbling brake fluid in the house :lol

brake calipers

just to cheer you up, don't knacker the caliper pistons, as i was informed by fords that they no longer make the calipers, also millners and birmingham motor parts are nil stock as of last friday when i called them. but nissan might have them at £350 each so be careful.ps if it's just the sliders quite straight forwards to do. good luck dave. pps if anyone needs to change the front brake hoses make sure the pipe fits into the block properly, as i have just replaced mine and wasted 1l of brake fluid before i found the new right hand hose was faulty.ok now just passed mot with flying colours

...And if the calipers are duff, I know of a breaker in Suffolk (nr Bungay) who has a few Terranos/Mavericks in the yard - one reason I went for my old/new Mav' today!
