How do I disconnect the alarm chime thing that rings when I leave the keys in the car with the door open please?

I like leaning out of the car taking wildlife pics and I know where the keys are, I don`t need the chiming to tell me where they are, it is just damned annoying.

Any help please peeps.

one suggestion is to simply take the keys out of the ign

or failing that , find a way of making sure the swtch on the door that operates the alarm is permanently pressed in , or contacts shorted out

I leave them in so I don`t lose them...........:thumb2

Good point, wonder if that would bugger the interior lights up as well though................:nenau

dunno about the t2 , but on the mistral the buzzer warns of lots of problems too , like impending brake failure ..... low on fluid / leaks etc too

Often they have a relay with the buzzer inside it.
If this is the case you have two options.

1 if there is a hole or a vent in the side, cover it with gaffer tape.
2 you can always open the relay and modify the buzzer. Sometimes you can open these like you would a wall nut. Use a vice and tighten it up till it crunches a bit...:doh:doh there is a risk... A big risk that you will destroy it in the process though:doh:doh

Oh 3 options...

3 leave it alone.

Ironically my one was not working when I got the car, so no lights on alarm or left keys alarm.

Being an Ex Volvo Driver, leaving the lights on was a habit, as the Volvo turned them off for you, so I kept leaving the T2's lights on and luckily never actually ran the battery flat, but did come close a couple of times.

I eventually discovered that the Drivers side door switch has 2 sets of contacts in it, and one set control the int lights, the other is the signal to tell the car you have opened the door. In my case, I took the switch apart, sorted it out, and got it all working...

So you should be able to find which ever pair ir is on the switch, and disconnect them, but keep the int light functioning, and if the chime is used for other things that do not require the door open, they will still work.

Thanks for the tips all, i`ll have a cursory route around this weekend. If it looks like it will be a PITA, I guess i`ll have to live with it.

Thanks again.

Can you not just find the buzzer and disconnect it? That's what I did with a Vauxhall

That is what I would like to do, I hoped some kind soul could tell me exactly where it is.I know it is under the drivers lower dash, but was hoping somebody would know exactly where.

No big thing, i`ll just have a look under there this weekend.

Ta.

the buzzer is located to the right hand side of the ignition switch and towards the left fixing pont on the fuse box, i think its a small cream box with two wires, from memory

If I remember correctly, it is up behind the lower dash panel, on the Right hand side of the steering column. There is what look like a pair of curved holes in the dash in front of it to let the sound out. ( I originally thought they were a cut out for an optional switch) It was a while ago, but I think it was in a relay like box, which has a single screw holding it to the dash frame work.

Thanks guys, great info to help me out...............:thumbs

the lights on buzzer on a terrano looks like these if it's any help, might be the same on the trols:thumb2

Lights on/keys in Ignition Buzzer/beeper

My buzzer has stopped working, so possibly mistakenly thought it might be faulty so got another one from a breaker, but still doesn't work.

soooo,

1. How can I test the buzzer ?

2. Checked all fuses and all are Ok , any other ideas ?

Thanks

Check the drivers door switch, that's what it was on mine.

Try moving it in and out by hand with the door open and the lights on. I managed to take my switch apart and more impotently, back together again, working, but I would not recommend it.:lol

Took the door switch off and thought I could just swop it for a rear one. But no, they are different.

So took the drivers side one apart and sure enough the spring had broken at the end. so I stretched the spring to make up the difference in length , cleaned the contacts and put it together. I tried that 3-4 times but no joy. Then I had the eureka moment. " I wonder if it has to be earthed ?", Noticed that the hole to connect it back to the door jamb was metal.

So screwed it back into place and.........BINGO !

Buzzer works again.

thanks

Well done... I took mine apart, then realised I had not noted which way round the contacts went, so had to do a couple of trial and errors to get it back together.:lol

Mine was just the contacts had spread, so even easier than yours. It's so annoying you have to put it all back together to test it each time though.:lol
