Hi Guy's, I got a problem with a birds nest in my hedge. Now first of all I don't want to do anything to harm the blackbirds who occupy it and as far as I'm aware it may be illegal to disturb them anyway.

What I want to know is when are they likley to fly the nest so that I can cut the hedge?

Jim

as soon as yours or the local cat finds them . if no cat borrow one lol

My moggie bring's a black bird in on an almost daily basis, I'll pop him in the post to you! :lol

I can't see a problem with cutting the hedge once they've left, farmers must have the same issue with their miles of hedgerows.

Cut the the hedge where the nest isn't. or the rest of the hedge except for the bit with the nest in it.its all the same.:D Blackbirds nest all through the summer begining in april with their last broods in july/early august, dependant on the weather.

Firstly, any attempt to interfere with the nest is indeed a criminal offence. If you are going to cut the rest of the hedge, make sure you leave enough cover from both predators and sunlight.
