Personally I would bother.

As soon as you start storing and cooking with methanol youre into murky waters :thumb2

Having said that theres more folk more adept than me at chemistry on here who have done it with good results :thumb2

Ah but you've got a proper job  I had one once, didn't like it so I've been self employed pretty much all the time. It does colour ones choices at times, and these times are a tad on the hard side:augie
I don't bother making it , true, but I would if I had some more space:eek:
In the mean time good luck Stephan :thumbs
I guess the worst part of the procedure is collecting all the crap oil in the first place:confused:

If you can get passed the secret oil collection Maffia and get a decent supply your sorted!!
I've got all the processing kit n 300L+ of methanol in my garage but not got the time to chase the waste oil!!

The men in white coats got wind of this ploy and now most people that buy cooking oil have to return the waste oil to the supplier. If not they are not allowed to have new oil deliverd.
Dont know how they police it, but that what i got told at work from the canteen girls.

My local chippy buys his oil from a wholesaler, and sells the old oil to a separate contractor, no problem, Rick

I have a friend who has a couple of chippies, he was the first person i approached and he said good chippies only use beef dripping and not oil...not much good for bio...:doh

Was talking to my local chippy about this the other day, seems many up north chippies use beef dripping/lard but when they come down here and taste our oil cooked chips they comment that they prefer them, Rick

Rick am sure we will just have to take your word for that....:bow

i asked my local chippy and he said he uses solid oil which when it cools down solidifies again like lard , and apparantly alot of them use it ! i thought about buying clean oil wholesale but by the time the cost was added up in wasent worth my time , , all I can think off is that song uhm " that old RED devil ............lalala"

As an add to the bio/veggie thing, I filter and use used engine, gearbox etc oil in my 1975 lister twin air cooled gen set, have been for a long time, but it does have its maintenance issues, only today I have had to remove both injectors as it was not developing full power, found one only to have massif crud buildup on the spray holes, cleaned it up and tested both, perfect spray patterns, refitted and now running a treat, the point is that this is only a labor problem so no cost, but on road going engines of more modern variety with synthetic rubber seals, I would be greatly concerned as to the possible damage to an expensive item like a fuel pump, just food for thought, Rick

i got the same response direct from large scale veg oil suppliers, they want the old stuff back!

I get ape seed oil at 88p a litre so i stick that straight in the tank, no worries :thumb2
