i got the same response direct from large scale veg oil suppliers, they want the old stuff back!

I doubt this is legislation, more like some suppliers have cottoned on to making a bit extra profit by selling the old stuff to the processors, Rick

no, not legislation, just shrewd business. Often the bottom price they advertise for bulk new stuff is including an allowance for returning the old!

As a matter of interest, for every 100 litres they use, how many litres go back?

More or less than 100 litres.....? Discuss...... :nenau

Could be less, as the food absorbs some.

Could be more, as there are contaminants in the oil.

Often now suppliers have to take back old materials, eg tyres, batteries etc helps to prevent dumping etc.

a lot less, the water in the food (and hence the oil) mostly evaporates with the heat, hence the steaming fryers you see. Then the food absorbs a lot of the oil, hence greasy batter and chips! :thumb2
