When I bought my T1, Chris the previous owner mentioned he'd had the binding rear caliper sorted but it's back again. Any suggestions on what to do or where to get a refurbished caliper?

Also keen to know what chassis code mine is? 1993, 2.7td, 5 door

Thanks chaps!

Full strip down of caliper ?

What did you do to sort it ? Did you remove the piston ?
Fully wire brush any sliders etc and coat with Copper Ease ?

I have found that the bit of corrosion between dust seal and caliper piston seal can cause problems. Sounds aggressive but in the past I have removed any rusty bits with a bearing scraper and then used 1000 grit to clean up the area as required.

Outer dust seal usually needs replacement but have never found any benefit it changing the piston seal.

No calipers at the rear I think, he probably meant a binding brake pad in the drum brake.

There is a workshop download on how to adjust them, but probably easier to just install new brake pads/springs etc. Solved it on my T2; since I had everything out I also changed one of the handbrake cables (was kinked).

T1 had disks on rear for main brakes, with a drum built in the centre for the hand brake shoes.

mine once was binding on one side due to the handbrake cable after it splits, worth checking it functions correctly.

Cheers Mac all noted. I didn't do anything last time, it was the previous owners mechanic and I have no idea what he did.

Noted on the handbrake cable as well chaps, cheers.

Does anyone know the model number and parts supplier should i need one?
