Have been trying for ages to win a spare wheel mounted bike rack on Eblag for the Mav, in preparation for our France trip, but have always lost them due to going to silly money. I've finally got one at a decent price. All I need now are a pair of cross bars for the top box to fit the roof rails, anyone ? :augie

I think you might have to fit one of those big triangles on the back if going to france with back mounted bikes, seem to remember reading it somewhere.

I will try to find it tomorrow

Thanks Bud. I know that I'll need at least a trailer board.

I use the same rack without light board.

The bikes shouldnt obscure the lights

Forgot to say ..flea bay for roof bars. I got mine there inc bike rack fittings:thumbs
Just put a couple of favourite search jobbies on and ebay will tell you when they turn up:sly

found several listings ,some say its law some say only advisary.

also talk of easy picking for the french police picking up GB cars with no light board.

Prob best to get both ;O)

Will definately run with a lighting board.

The tyres are Kumho KL71's. The spare is new, but the others I bought from Elty on here. They were superb at Salisbury Plain.

I'm going to move the 12N socket to the bumper, and replace it with a metal type one, and bin the 12S electrics, as I don't use them. I'm also going to do the brake light cluster mod.

?!?!?! whats this one then Lee??

Got that same carrier Lee.....if I were you I'd adjust the rear arms (that the bikes actually sit on) upwards a bit so the bikes tend to slide towards the car.

You can buy spare rubbers (the ones that site on the upper arm) for those in Halfords so you have a set for each bike....

Where in France are you going?

I would suggest a trailer board for that one :thumbs

Partial obscuration is the key for your own good as well as the lawful or not argument. Cant enough see on that pic to decide properly.

Mind you, you'd probably get away with it in the UK, the chance of a cop who knew what to do being around to do it is slim :naughty

The rear lighting mod is fitting a tail light bulb holder into the brake light cluster. This gives following vehicles a much better "view" of the rear of the truck. You'll find it here :

We're going to Faye d'Anjou. It's about a third of the way South, near to the coast. This is a new location to us, so should be like a mini expedition.
