Sorry, never had to change mine so no help at all!!!

But... when you change yours why not take some pics, do a little write up and then submit it as a Workshop to help people in future!!! :thumb2:thumb2

easy, jackup the osf wheel and remove it remove the rubber mud flap in the starter area, you now have good access, do not forget to disconnect the battery first, can do one in less than an hour, Rick

depending on your car, you might come across a few problems. When I did mine, I couldnt bring the starter out through the wheel arch due to the positioning of the break pipes, and I couldnt unbolt them to move them enough. I had to bring mine out, believe it or not, through the top of the engine bay, so in between all those pipes etc, but it was ok, it fiddly. You will definately need access through the wheel arch though either way, as you wont reach the lower bolts for the starter.

bit of scrapes, but on the whole its an easy job and will save you a fortune in labour. good luck!

thanks for the tips will come in handy ,i will try to take some pics as well for future reference

hello finally got around to doing the starter motor , ( A 14 MM RATCHET SPANNER WILL HELP LOADS )easy access to lower bolt through offside wheel arch as you said but guess what it had no lower bolt someone had not replaced it after last starter change most probably, managed to get the old starter out of the wheel atch after some fiddling but to loook at the thing it looks like you would not be able to do it as the brake pipes are right there and can not be removed but with some twisting and bending it came out , the new motor had a extra piece on it like a miniature bell housing arouind the end so it made it more difficult to get back in the wheel arch ended up droppiing it through the top and then manouvering it into place through wheel arch a few hours later im bolting it up and its in place , but as you have said you need a 14 mm reatchet spanner as the space is too small for a socket ratchet and a spanner takes forever ,hence three hours !!! , just didnt have the time to stop and take photos to do a download as its bloody freezing in northj wales oh thats another suggestion get a warm garage and dont attempt it if you only have a driveway like me wait till summer if you can ,all working now though lovely go out on me own now and dont have to leave the thing running with someone siting in it ,thanks everyone for alll advice given
