So first wee modding/tweaking of the 4.2 Safari :sly
One thing I had noticed on the drive home was that the Trol's speedo was reading up to around 5 mph low compared with gps.
Obviously she's running on larger than standard tyres (33s) but I was keen to do what I could to fix it.
On checking the Aussie Trol forums this seems to be a common problem with Y60 Trols and there's a fairly straightforward solution it seems. Within the instrument panel there's a potentiometer which can be adjusted... if you're brave enough to drill through the instrument casing
So you'll need to remove the steering wheel and steering column casing then unscrew the instrument cover (I didn't bother unplugging the switches) and finally unscrew the four screws on the gauge unit.
Manoeuvre the the casing so you can get to the top above the speedo and then carefully drill a 5mm hole...
If you've got the right place you should see the crosshead for the top of the potentiometer, turn clockwise to increase the speedo reading (ie get it reading higher)... be careful though as the crosshead is very soft and thin screwdrivers very sharp so try not to butcher it like I managed to :doh
I left the casing loose, refitted the steering wheel and went for a drive to check the speedo vs the gps then re-adjust.
Once you're happy just refit the casing :thumb2
The speedo now reads about 3 to 5mph higher than gps at 30mph (ie gps speed about 27-25mph) rising to about 7mph higher when you're at 60 (ie. Gps speed about 53mph). I'm happy with that, gives good leeway as the speedo is a bit lazy anyway (being 27 years old) and it gives scope for larger tyres again if I should want in the future :thumbs
