so today I decided to begin work on the front wings of the Maverick, since I fixed my Mazda next week I have a spare car to play with.

as expected, had to cut away a fair old bit of wheel arch, but generally inside the wing is [pretty clean. I struggled to build a mesh backing for the filler as its awkward, and i have never done this before, but I managed most of it and applied my Isopan Metallic filler. This stuff is brilliant, so easy to work with and i have even been able to bridge small holes and gaps without it falling out. Its not done yet as I need more filler, but already its rock solid, and feels strong enough to have the wings pushed back on again (but i think i will replace the clips...)

going to finish one side this week, then start the other next weekend, I bought what should be the correct colour paint and primer fom halfords, good price, so hopefully i will achieve a near enough decent finish.

yes i too need to do the same, but havent got the time at the moment, any pictures of the progress would be helpful, cheers

I will post up asap, but its nothing special tbh!

How about fibre glass? resin around the back of the wing and place fibre glass mat behind the hole. Let the resin dry and then resin and more fibre glass and then fill.

tried, too awkward and messy to get the fibre in place. Stuck with Alu mesh...!

I'm faced with the same task, o/s front wing but am considering a different approach,by attaching new metal to the rear of the wing with "Tiger Seal",
which i've used on other vehicles, once cured it's there forever, then apply the filler and finish off. Hopefully I can get a good match for the chianti red somewhere.

Out of curiosity, I called the main Ford dealership asking about a replacement wing, quoted £351 +vat. Asked if in stock (no I'm not paying that) the reply was, "we have to order, computer is showing available but there is a heavy backorder and no estimated delivery time".
I assume body parts for a mk1 Maverick are as rare as Rocking Horse doo doo.

I think your plan is the way to go Groundhog. I havent finished mine yet as I have to sand it down again with a higher grade and try to colour match, but when I do the otherside, I think I will try your plan using tiger seal. I did want to do that originally, but I couldnt find anywhere that sold it!

I get Tiger Seal from my local automotive finishing supplier, they only sell to the trade so may have to get your friendly garage to order it for you :naughty
