Hi all, what brands of batteries do people recommend.

Got home from a trip away and tried to start my wifes terrano and sure enough the battery is dead so at least it has confirmed the problem.

So far I have been offered
Bosch
Exide
Lucas
Power Plus (alphas own brand).

And boy does it take some explaining that no a 70ah is the wrong battery :doh

Why is Ah the deciding factor? Surely CCA is more relevant (should be 750 or above iirc although mine is 540 and has never failed) for a starting battery, no?
Exide, Lucas and Bosch are all good, Power plus I've never heard of but the name sounds like it means business.

Yuasa on my last 3 4 x 4 's

The battery on my Jeep WJ is a Yuasa bought it on the the web flea bay in January its 100 ah 900 cca 5000 series cost £86 with a 5 year warranty. They seem to be a good Korean Battery fitted to Kia & Hyundai so they last at least 7 years presumably ?

The below link has some Hankook options but the site looks as though it has a gremlin when I tried to search it today ! Hankook are building on the success of their Tyre Sales.

I fitted a Platina on my 300CRD it was £59.99 for a 105 ah with 950 cca sold the car now so cant say how long they might last! (e-bay)

CostCo have some good spec Bosch if you are a member, beware when looking at sites like Eurocarparts as the model numbers are odd and often do not tally with other retailers.

I bought a Bosch from Eurocarparts for my Mini and I had to stand it on a 1" layer of Polystyrene to get the terminals to fit and it failed when it was a month out of the 2 year warranty !

I can recommend VARTA batteries, I've bought two brand new over the years including the one I have on my Terrano now, and a car I once bought had one fitted, don't know why I remember that :lol, when I eventually buy a new one for my caravan I'm going to buy a BANNER.

Varta high quailty brand.

I agree Varta are a good make but top price these days.

This is mine, I bought it Nov 2014, no problems with it.

I've ended up with a Yuasa 95ah 830cca. Halfords wanted £124.95 but after a bit of negotiation got it for £99 with 5 year warranty. I could of got a cheaper battery but not until middle of next week.

You will not be disappointed just make sure you charge it up fully ASAP with a Trickle Charger or a battery conditioner CTEK or similar I bought one of the Cheaper Aldi Ones the first one lasted about 18 months and failed as the mode switch would not cycle.

May be they developed batteries by accident, some one asked for a "Run Flat" lol

Oh dear have I done something wrong, I've just fitted the battery and started using the truck. In actual fact due to my other truck being off the road I have no choice but to use it.
