can anyone help ive been puzzled for days with this one, normally when i turn the ignition on lights show on dash glow plugs go out and it starts:thumb2. but lately when dash lights come on the engine check light MIL flashes intermitantly it will turn over but wont start:doh ive turned the ignition off and on dozens of times before it stays on . then when i turn it over it fires up straight away. i borrowed a mates consult reader which showed nothing , i tried the paperclip method from the download section:thumb2 that drew a blank too,:doh it was suggested a faulty ignition switch, my mate tested the switch all seemed fine, then out of the blue i tried my spare key and robs your mothers brother every thing works fine.:nenau and works everytime, i see theres a red chip on each of my keys, where can i get a spare key to suit my ignition switch, that must be the problem i swapped the keys back over and it didnt work again. its like an imobiliser is on, it will turn over until you run the battery flat but it won t fire up. is there a battery sealed inside the key, can i change it. can anyone help i would like to sort it before it happens with my other key. :nenau:nenau

The red chip in your key is foofed, it has no battery, it picks up its power by induction and then speaks to the ecu, this is not happening hence as you say the immobiliser is kicking in the only place I know to get a new key is Main stealer but I think maybe some good locksmiths may do them, but even a new key has to be programmed, know you can do the plips but do not know about chipped key, Rick

thanks rick you`ve confirmed what i thought it could be,:doh i will shop around for a spare, i see i can buy a blank on ebay for 15 quid. :thumb2 i can get it cut,:thumb2 but i dont know where to get it programmed.:doh thanks again Andy.

Some places that cut keys also program them. They do where I live anyway:)

bad starting

thanks to all for my key advise, if i get a key cut i will have to get a new transponder, if this is the problem i cant see the point in fitting the one from the old key as mentioned, theres a timpsons in town i`m going to pay them a visit after work tommorow. my spare key has`nt failed once since i `ve been using it, so it`s defo the old key. thanks again Andy.

Might be a Dealer job to program the key's and by the way who ever programs they'll need both keys to reprogram them together.

had a key done today £49 lighter by mobile auto electrician / locksmith,:thumb2 all worked great for 2 hours and the flashing light was back:eek: got it booked in for monday.:nenau i did notice when engine running and switched off there was a whirring and a click comming from the injector pump area i checked the ignition swich and replaced the relay with a new one, i dont know what to try next this has got me stumped:doh if anyone can help i would greatly appreciate it Andy.:nenau

hi iv`e racked the brains of a few people who seems to think its the crank sensor at fault:doh does anyone know where this is fitted as i dont know where to start looking. i realise it is near the crank :nenau

you get a click from the engine bay and the starter will not turn?

Probably the starter.

My current new one has lasted me only 3-4 months.

ive had the starter tested all ok, if i turn the ignition on the mil light either:= stays on and the engine fires up without a hiccup.:thumb2 or the mil light continuously flashes the starter turns over but the engine wont fire,:doh it will turn over until you flatten the battery as if an immobiliser is stopping it from firing :nenau i spoke to a nissan mechanic who reacons its the crank sensor. i went to my local scrap yard this morn but they only had a 2.4 petrol in stock, is it the same setup as the r20 diesel ? as i wanted to illiminate the fault before i buy a new one i`ve had my t2 for 4 months now i realise i`d have to do a few repairs, after all it is a 12 year old truck, but this fault has me stumped if anyone can point me in the right direction i would appreciate it Andy.
