I'm having the same trouble as some others with the Autohubs failing to disengage properly.

Having looked at the Workshop 16 guide provided by Shark1e I'm not sure which part or parts I need to remove to make a running repair so I can use my Maverick in 2WD until I get a set of manual hubs.

If anyone can tell me the item/s (either 1,2,3 or 4 in the guide) which I need to remove and leave off the help would be appreciated.

Any other tips will also be welcome as this will be the first time I will have done this.

Many thanks,
Bern

Bern, it was me and Sharkie who did the downloads for changing to manuals and the auto service - me the first and Sharkie the second. All you need to remove is anything that will come out without tools, and them put a dollop of oil in the bottom of the hub and slap them back on :thumb2

If you strip them down you will 10/1 find that they are full of grease and that is whats caursing them to stick in.
Have a look here at the strip down i did to mine http://www.nissan4x4ownersclub.com/downloads/workshop/wk37.pdf

It really is easy to do and dont take too long.:thumbs

it's true once you have them off, and the loose bits out, you are half way there. If yo run them with a dollop of oil in for a day it helps break down all the old grease

Plank & Kamsin,
Many thanks for the quick and helpful replies.
Following your Workshop guides I did have them both out & cleaned about 6 weeks ago which did improve the running however I now want them off and replaced with manual hubs as I use the Maverick for my business as a self employed gardener and can't afford failure up in any of the estate gardens in the Cotswolds as it makes me look bad infront of the Roller owners :)
So if you could tell me which number parts to leave off I'd appreciate the advice.
Cheers guys,
Bern

just take them off and any bits that are loose, and don't need tools to remove, leave out!

i know on the original download Shark1e used copper grease, (it's all he had at the time) but i think it's not the right stuff for the job, too thick and sticky. A light coat of lithium grease or even a dollop of oil would be better in my opinion.

Many thanks Plank.
So I guess that'll be parts numbered 2, 3 and 4.
I'm having a go at this myself as the garage I was using have closed.

My thanks to everyone who has helped me get this sorted.

This morning I took the spring and Brake A parts off each heb and the Maverick Mk1 2.4 is now running a whole lot smoother and quieter.

For thoes who might need to do the same the basic process is.

I used the Workshop Guide 15 and Downloadable manual as guides.

Prize off Plastic central hub cap.
Jack up wheel and remove.
Get someone to apply foot brake so you can undo the 6 Allen bolts around the Autohub.
Take off the cup shaped Autohub (I needed to tap them gently).
A coiled spring came straight out when I took both Autohubs off which was helpful..
The Brake A part is a ring with two tabs which you take off next - no tools required.
On one of these Brake A parts one of the tabs was broken and the other was squashed flat -these are what were causing the problems. (I'll try and post a couple of pictures).
The running repair is to leave these Springs and Brake A parts off then refit the Autohub, wheel and plastic hub cap.

And here's a pic of a Spring and a broken Brake A showing one of the tabs which has snapped off.

Hope this helps :)
