Just a thought from me extreme
I replaced the brake rings on one side only as the other looked ok but
it broke again . I gave up and went to manuals because had no time to mess about but if I remember someone said that you need to replace both sides even if it looks ok to get it working right
I think jims terrano had the same problem
Good luck

ahh it all makes sense now.... the wonders of pictures. so the one i thought was playing up or worn is actually ok .

now i just have to re do the other side tomorrow now. just to make sure

Yes that can be the case. I had one jammed in the locked position but its the other side that makes the noise as it tries to engage all the time with everythung going in the wrong direction.

so what makes them jam?
how do you free them?
what action should be taken then? - swap brake rings a to opposite sides like you said before?

or do you gust free them and re grease ?

Mne jammed on cos the break rings were worn, they were ok to lock the hubs in but couldn't get em out. I used a soft brass drift to hammer the centre round dissengage it.

When stripping and cleaning em you need to go further than the diag above show. Theres a circlip in the main body to get out and then you can withdraw the actual locking but - thats in the download I think.

If you look at the main body part fully assembled ther should be some ramp type bits and some lugs inside em they should be roughly lined up in the unlocked position. Eay was to tell if they are locked in. Put your fingers in the splines and try to turn the main body - will also give you a good idea of why it needs greasing and why they can get hot if not lubed properly.

took them apart as per download and went a bit further to remove brake rings etc. cleaned all and greased.

the truck wobbles and pulls to the left but the left side looked good
now i can see the pics and understand

however the right side looked like it had water in it at some point and some rust the big drum with cog's in inside the auto hub didn't move as free and i could not get it to lock-unlock position when dismantled...i could with the left

to be honest i think its dead or dieing fast its back together but no better

manuals i think or try the breakers
shame all the rings etc are good its that drum that seems seized

yeah but its the cost, the mav owes me 340.00 quid and i want to get it to 0 spending out on manuals will ruin my plan for free motoring

i paid 850.00 and sold loads a bits off it so it owes me very little

not a happy bunny:thumbs

Well uhmmm
rebuild both sides and you really need to do that to make i work.
I wasted a good new hub kit because i didnt.
If you have new working against old it will break.or sieze

i wish I lived closer I would pop my old autos round so you could use them
the new kit is still ok.
Good luck
well at least you won the photo comp
