My one is an auto (mistral) anybody can tell me at what rev the gear are changing ?
When I push down on third gear, it goes at 4000 and get stuck for a while until I release the gas and push the pedal again. Is that weird or everybody with auto are the same ?
top speed around 140k/h
Not sure that the Mistral autobox is the same as the later Terrano version but they often display a reluctance to change into top gear...but 4000rpm is fecking high, thats almost into the rev limiter.
I'm assuming (i) you've got overdrive, and (ii) its switched on (no warning light illuminated)?
The reluctance to change into top gear is sometimes associated with cold running....Timbo will tell you the exact details, but it would be better when warmed up if thats the issue. Theres also a solenoid that can misbehave and cause the problem, but autoboxes are horrendously complex and the advice I've always had from the best auto engineers is "wait til something breaks" , because you'll spend a fortune trying to diagnose a fault and often still need the box swapped or reconditioned. I've found that to be good advice TBH.
Problem with these things is, unlike a manual box, which can be had reconditioned for around £500-600, you either face a bill for around £1500 to have an autobox rebuilt, or using a s/h one of unknown pedigree.....and look where thats got Briggie - 12 months down the line and its bolloxed.
As Extreme says, when you floor the pedal quickly it implements 'kickdown' and drops the thing a gear, so conversely, if you ease off a bit it can help it change up, especially with that last cog.
But I'm struggling to understand exactly what you mean by "push down on third gear"??? Can you expand a bit?
