Oh, forgot to say, LF, the only piece of equipment you'll need is a funnel to get the stuff in, Tesco sell one for a quid or so, but pop the filter out of it as that slows the flow a bit.

I don't use one at all, just smoothly tip the bottle upside down in the filler neck. You can also make a funnel by cutting the bottom out of a plastic pop bottle if you want to save another quid :thumb2

Glad to be of some use, considering the help I've had from here!

Plank, you're right, but a funnel with a flexi nozzle will hold itself against the filler flap nicely so it's easier to do one handed, I have had issues with the 20L cubies from the wholesalers dripping and stuff so I'd recommend a pump of some sort to save spillages.

Kamsin, do a few jam jars or clear plastic bottles outside (or even sneak some into the freezer for extreme tests) and see the differences between petrol and diesel as an additive.

I did forget to mention that veg has a higher cetane rating than diesel so contains more 'power' per litre, but mixing with petrol reduces this. If you feel things are a little sluggish, a cetane enhancer like either veggie boost from the guy who hosts the VegetableOilDiesel forumsor a bit of acetone will pick things back up. Remember, no more than 3% of fuel can be additives or HMRC will be unhappy with you.

Just bought 10 bottles from Asda and found that they have put the price up to £2.70 for three litres, the rotters.

cooking oil

Hi all i have just joined again after a few years away i have a question i have just sold my 1996 terrano 2 after seven years hard work and its been a brill workhourse, i have run on 50 /50 diesel and cooking oil for years and had no problems and i sold it for export the other day still sweet at 170k. i have bought a 2.7 tdi sport on a 03 but manafactured in 2001 i have not tried it on cooking oil yet does anybody know if it will run on it as far as i can see the engine is the same but this has the intercooler on.is any other member running on oil on a simlar age T2:clap

There's been loads of threads on this and you need to read up on this site, not google. Essentially for a few quid you could make your own fuel warmer with a glow plug and then run neat veg all winter easy :D

I was trying to search tonight, sods law, "Veg" and "Oil" are too small to search on... really helpful :doh :lol

Oh, and I was having an OAP Blond moment when I said how much oil my truck was using... I was re-reading it, thinking that is not right... I should have said it is using 2 litres per 450 miles... Been a long day.:doh

I have a 2000 2.7 TDI running on cooking oil and its fine. Its the same engine almost as my 2.7 TDI Maverick.

I can confirm that Asda have put the prices up :( Grrrrrrrrrrr
£2.70 now for 3 Litres which is stil 83p / Litre which still beats £1.43 per litre of Diesel

Plus, my local Asda has sold out and now so I went to another one that was relatively close to be bollocked by the duty manager and only being allowed to take 6 in any 24 hour period to be "fair" to other shoppers and she then went on to say that they weren't a wholesalers and why should she let me profit out of Asda WTF!!!! I gave her a right mouthful to the point where I was almost escorted out of the store with my 6 measly bottles lol

I did some basic maths when I got home and realised that using an 80/20 mix of oil/diesel is saving me about £33 per tank, I go through about 2 full tanks a month x that by 2 = £66 a month saving. Then x that by 12 months in a year thats £792 saving a year!!!!!!

Plus, thats just doing the calculations as if I'm paying for Oil, I usually get about 50-60 litres WVO for free a month :D

Order it online like i did, they delivered me 24 bottles last night and no questions. You get a £2 charge for it, but to be fair, SO WHAT! :lol

ASDA arnt there to be fair to other shoppers, they are there to make a profit. Ask her where the information is saying that you can only have 6.

Thanks for the heads up :D, I've just been and cleared our local Asda out :D
