ARRRGGGHHHH.

so, as some of you know (refer to jims post about CKP sensor)i'm having a spot of trouble wi mi mav. Got fresh MOT last weekend after many MANY months off the road. Yesterday after engine was warmed up its stalled on me when idling twice. Engine Check light comes on, but only when warmed up. I ordered a new K&N air filter last week, this arrived the day before yesterday so as Mav is off the road again I thought I would fit it, and re check the codes.

Before MOT I had one code, 47, same as Jim, effect was slight loss off power-no stalling. Fitted the air filter, and gave it a good revving 4k rpm, felt a slight juddery between 3/4k but ok, felt very free and nice. Checked the codes, and two more have sprung up. Code 12-MAF, which I had a long time ago cured by fitting a used MAF from a member here, other is code 34 and of course 47. Code 34 says Injector needle lift sensor-incorrect signal=wiring, injector needle lift sensor or air in fuel.

FFS

can any one shed any light? As for wiring, I am not sure where to start with regards the needle lift sensor, in fact, I dont even know what or where that is! Could this have caused my stalling problem perhaps? in fact, I just noticed, I had this error quite a number of months ago as I have marked it on the sheet, but it did clear, now its back...odd..

so, looks like I may need new MAF-I doubt fitting a new filter would cause that to throw a wobbler...
New ckp sensor possibly and new needle lift sensor as well...any advice guys, heeeeeelp! :(

clivvy, the injector needle lift sensor is in no 1 injector and they cannot be repaired, a new injector is required, my light came on checked the codes and it was the injector, i fitted a new one and the difference is remarkable, the truck feels and performs like a different motor, cost £150-200 . i got mine from
europarts, check the other listings as this has been covered before, good luck mate.:thumbs

darn it, and I thought I had gotton away with a large bill from the MOT! oh well, ill try euro car parts this week and get one ordered, I have checked the listing but cant find any reference to replacement, as in how to do it, is it easy-ish?

Hi Clivvy, I think that is one of the other 3 injectors (without the lift sensor) You would only require the number 1 injector with the sensor fitted in it. First you need to find out if yours is a Bosh pump/injectors or Zexel system. If its bosch europarts don,t supply them. If its zexel S and S diesel specialists of Southampton can get you one. Just changed mine. Cost £120 delivered. (Zexel) Phone 01489 893834 ask for Chris. They do the bosch one also, around £168 plus VAT. If you look under the offside front wheel arch, pull the rubber guard matting down and you can see the side of the fuel pump to take details off (make plus numbers) hope this helps, Cheers, Tony.

Cheers tony, that helps, ill take a look tomorrow and call those numbers!

Sorry to see this clivvy. Wonder if both faults are linked in some way?

You could try cleaning the maf perhaps?

Jim

not sure Jim, the MAF was ok when I changed it last, but I did change it for a used one. TBH I dont mind buying a new MAF-£40 brand new off Fleabay.

the big cost if the Injector and CKP, although now I am thinking my weird running issues I hav ereported pretty much ever since I joined is down to that injector, has to be, even though a dodgy MAF can apparently cause stalling.

I am going to check tonight/tomorrow for the correct injector, but I dont even know where the injectors are, I just hope its something I can do myself...

clivvy, it's not a hard job to do really, you will need (mine was) a 27mm injector socket with holes in the side which the wire goes through,--

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=120414793352&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT

while your doing this job it would be a good idea to change the fuel return/splill pipes, these can be bought cheaply from motor factor shops, they turn brittle with age and do leak fuel.

getting back to the injector, i phone several places and was always asked for the number from injector, this might help if you can see it, otherwise you will have to remove it to see. all the best mate.:thumbs

Thanks for this, I will try and pickup the socket tool and pipes later today or tomorrow...thing is, and I am sorry but I am at the learning stage here...where ARE the injectors! Also, do I need to watch out for leaky fuel when unplugging pipes, do I need to clamp them or something??

Thanks very much for this, I got to the pump, its a Zexel, which I believe is good news cost wise, we will see...

going to ring SandS now, I just hope they dont want me to take the injector out yet!

ok, injector ordered from SandS, really nice chap, and with luck, will get it Saturday/Monday!

now I am off to buy a new MAF...

aww poo, cant order a MAF off ebay, because they are the bosh ones, mines hitachi. Anybody know where I can get one from easily (would like to avoid main dealer)??

scrapper is your only other option mate - nearly £400 from dealer.

ouch!

thing is, it would have to be off a low miler surely, otherwise I may as well just try cleaning mine again!...hmm..bit of a pain.

not necessarily....my wifes truck has a Hitachi and is close on 180k miles and I've never touched the bloody MAF, ever!

Hi clivvy, what about Pages for a MAF? failing that Parts Gateway web site, they search breakers yards for you. Theres also Thornton 4x4 Breakers at Thornton near Bradford.

Jim

As the hitachi ones are so reliable as a rule, why not do your injector job first. THEN after cleaning your MAF do the old unplug it test and see what happens:augie Could save a lot of bucks and therefore spend it on the crank sensor if you've still got issues:thumbs
The maf is also pretty easy to test with a volt meter gizmo.
The voltages and revs etc are all in the manual, ZIPPY tell him where the manual is please?/!
Cheers:rolleyes:

I think i will do that-injector first, then clean the MAF.I think I was just too eager to "get what I need and be done with it", after all the trouble I have had! Bit more patience is called for I think...
